Review: Pizza Hut Wing Street Apple Pies

by tree pony

Everyone in our house was finally getting over the stomach flu that had pretty much ruined the weekend before for us. So, I decided to celebrate by ordering a pizza Friday night after work.

Even though we have several pizza places to choose from, including plenty that deliver, Pizza Hut is still the cheapest so I ended up ordering a pizza from them. And, since I knew the pizza wasn’t going to be enough, I also ended up looking at some sides and ultimately decided to give their Wing Street Apple Pies a try.

To tell you the truth, I’m not really sure why I decided to order this item. I like apple pies but they really didn’t seem like something that went with pizza. I did, however, like the price; 8 for $5 and figured they would give us something a bit different for dessert. And, overall, I am glad I bought these.

When I ordered them, I figured they would end up being yet another item that wasn’t exactly what I was expecting to get. Mostly, I thought the “pies” would be some sort of bite-sized treat that wouldn’t be enough for one person and definitely not a family. However, as it turns out, the pies were exactly what I was expecting and more.

First of all, as far as size goes, these weren’t terrible. They weren’t as big as the apple pies that you might order from a fast food restaurant like McDonalds. But, they were much larger than I expected them to be. Rather than one bite, it took about four or five bites to eat them. And, as I said before, there were 8 in the box (two for each of us) so there was plenty to go around.

What really impressed me about these, however, was the taste. I bit into one of these and thought it would be bland. Instead, there was quite a bit of cinnamon on the crust and, when combined with the apple filling, it was as good as a homemade apple pie. The only difference was it was in an easy-to-eat form. The individual pies also had much more apple pie filling that I was expecting so, as a result, were much more filling than you think they would be.

One other thing I need to compliment Pizza Hut on when it comes to this product, they really know how to keep their food warm. I thought, by the time we were done with dinner, these pies would be cold and would have to be re-heated. Instead, they were still piping hot when we had them. That alone added to the overall taste.

If you order pizza from Pizza Hut and are looking for something to go with it, I would recommend giving these apple pies a try.
