Maybe it is just me. Or maybe I was just tired. But what was that last night? Only four out of twelve girls were able to come up with a current song yesterday on American Idol. 9 Ballads put me about to sleep. It was terrible.
I just checked dialidol and while I know it is not that reliable anymore since people can now text and vote online I am shocked. Lauren Turner my favorite is at the bottom while Julie Zorilla, Tatynisia Wilson and Lauren Alaina are predicted safe. Julie and Tatynisa were really not that good.
Tatynisa Wilson sang “Only Girl in the World” and she was out of tune and on top of it she couldn’t really dance. But I can see why she leads since it was one of the only current songs out there. American Idol judge Randy Jackson said he wasn’t moved and I agree. She is predicted safe and I guess she will be safe.
While Naima Adedapo looks interesting with all those dresses she designs I can’t say that I remember her performance very well. I immediately thought of Fantasia too who delivered one of the most memorable moments with “Summertime”and Naima didn’t even come close. I liked the Big Band vibe but that was it. Jackson was again right calling it too “loungy”. Why was Randy Jackson never able to deliver constructive critiques in the year before? She was OK. With all those girls who delivered performances like that I can’t really tell whether she should be moving on or not. Whatever happened to not making it gender even as announced during the pre-idol shows?
Third was Kendra Chantelle. Kendra Chantelle sang: “Impossible” last night on American Idol. Randy Jackson liked it. Steven Tyler praised her whole package by calling her voice, her style and her clothes “hot”. Jennifer Lopez commented on her fighting her way in the top 12 and thought it was “amazing”. I didn’t care much for the song nor for her.
Why does Rachel Zevita always have to appear so “witchy”? I was so glad when she took the cape of performing “Criminal”. The judges pretty much called it a Broadway performance and letting on that Rachel is more then that. She might receive a boost since votefortheworst.com picked her as their favorite.
So singing one line of a song in your native language and then slipping back into English means that you are making the song your own these days? Karen Rodriquez just did that. She sang the most over sung song in the world which is “Hero” by Mariah Carey! Personally I thought Karen had forgotten the words in Spanish that is why she only sang one line. It didn’t’ flow. It didn’t make sense and looking back at past winners who really made songs their own that is just ridiculous. I will remember that next time when I attempt to sing one line of a song in German and hope that I get praised by all people around me. Other then that I thought she had good control over her vocals and a good stage presence.
I finally woke up a little bit once Lauren Turner hit the stage. But since she didn’t got a whole lot of airtime and Jennifer Lopez kept telling that she was still holding back she is listed almost last on dialidol which gives me little hope that she is going to make it through. This would be unfortunate because Lauren has fire under her butt. Lauren Tuner performed: “Seven Day Fool” and I loved every minute of it. I voted for her as soon as the lines opened. I am glad that at least Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler appreciated it.
Ashton Jones performed: ” Love Over Me” and I wasn’t familiar with the song. I don’t like her being so overconfident to begin with. Jennifer Lopez told her that she has the potential of becoming a diva. Who wants to become a diva? That shouldn’t be something you aspire to be! I don’t want my kids to become a diva either. Very weird! Anyway all the judges loved her and I think she might be just making it and if she doesn’t she will be a Wildcard pick.
Gosh, I was pulling for Julie Zorilla but yesterday she blew it. She performed “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson. And it wasn’t good. Maybe it was too hard to turn a three minute song in a 1.30 minute performance. American Idol Runner up Crystal Bowersox said recently that this is really hard to do. The song just didn’t flow. Steven Tyler thought Julie Zorilla should have taken the song up a couple keys and that may have done the different. I don’t know. But obviously she is a people favorite anyway since she is predicted safe on dialidol. So hopefully she can redeem herself next time around.
Haley Reinhard sang: ” Fallin” last night. The whole performance mixed with her facial expression made me uncomfortable. It seemed fake and she didn’t seem to be at ease with what she was doing. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez loved it while Randy Jackson said it “didn’t do anything for her”.
Thia Megia who performed on a previous talent show was able to deliver a needed break to the madness of big powerhouse Ballads and such. She sang: “Out Here on My Own” and it seemed that way. Thia Megia’s tender voice unaccompanied commanded attention. I liked it. Randy Jackson compared the “quality tone of her voice” with the “late great Michael Jackson”. And Steven Tyler liked that it was pitch perfect while Jennifer Lopez called it a “great moment” within the show of “big performances”. I think American Idol should let the cat out of the bag and finally say that Thia was on another reality show before.
I like Lauren Alaina’s personality. So it is easy to support her. She performed: “Turn on the radio” which fits much better to a young person then to a super star like Reba. Reba seems so desperate with that song. Anyway I thought they made Lauren Alaina look a little bit like Carrie Underwood. The first few lines were good but then I thought it didn’t show her off that much. I am glad however that the judges disagreed with me on that and it seems as Idol voters have turned in to support her since she is listed safe.
Last not least was Pia Toscano who performed: “I’ll Stand By You”. Carrie Underwood sang that song before Haiti relief I think. Anyway Pia did a great job but I am not sure she did as good as the judges made it out to be who referred to her as a mix between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Pia Toscano received the “first” standing ovation this year from all the judges. I don’t know if that is true I thought they did that for Jacob Lusk too and if not I think he is by far more deserving. But since American Idol producers want a woman to win for years now I guess they judges focused on pointing that out to us. But I am not sure if that convinces the viewers since she is not even listed safe on dialidol. I think she will make it however through the next round.
I hope that Lauren Turner will join Tatynisa Wilson, Julie Zorilla and Lauren Alaina who are all predicted safe according to dialidol. Julie fan are probably upset that the judges took her apart and voted more for her because she shouldn’t be feeling safe at all based on her performance.
It should be interesting tonight.
