My wife and I were in the mood for chicken last night (well, actually, I would have been fine with leftover chili but she wanted something different). We had some in our freezer but it was already a bit late in the day, I was hungry and didn’t feel like waiting while she thawed it and then baked it. So, I told her I would just pick up some chicken on my way home.
In the past, I would stop off at one of the two grocery stores here in town and just pick up some chicken from the deli. However, the deli chicken made us sick the last couple times we bought it (from both stores) so I decided to stop at our local Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant instead.
I have never minded KFC’s chicken. But, I have avoided eating there recently because I have always felt it was a bit too expensive. And, when I went in there, I was expecting to regret the decision (at least financially). However, I noticed the restaurant offered something a bit different on their menu; a 10-Piece Bucket Feast.
The thing that impressed me about this was the price; $20.99. OK, to be honest, this seemed a bit high at first. But, I looked at the 12-piece dinner option they also had on their menu (the one they had a coupon for) and the 10-piece feast was $7 less for just two less pieces of chicken (it would still have been $4 less even if I used the $3 coupon).
In addition to that, I remembered the last time I bought chicken from the grocery store deli, I only got 8 pieces of chicken and, by the time I bought the sides separately, I was within a couple dollars of the $20.99. Since the KFC 10-Piece Feast included three large sides and biscuits (as well as two more pieces of chicken), I started to realize there was a value.
Basically, this was exactly what I was looking for. I was able to bring home enough food for all four of us, there were plenty of leftovers and, most importantly, I didn’t have to dirty any dishes (which my wife had spent all day washing) making it. And, while it obviously wasn’t as affordable as making the dinner myself (and, while edible, I don’t know if the chicken was as good as I remember it being), I do think I got my money’s worth.
If you are looking for something for dinner and don’t want to spend a ton of money, I would recommend checking your local KFC restaurant to see if they offer this menu option.
