J Bistro does not look the part of a gourmet restaurant. J Bistro is in a former restaurant that looks like it might have been fast food or pizza place. It sits next to a shopping center on a four lane road that takes you from Fort Myers to Fort Myers Beach. But please do not let that deter you from a wonderful dining experience.
Chef Proprietor James E. Hudson and Souse Chef Troy Hahn conjure up amazing dishes that will astound you. I could write a mouth watering review just by copying the menu for you. However you can do that for yourself plus see pictures of the dishes and interior of the restaurant at jbistros.com. With that out of the way let me tell you of my dining experience at J Bistro.
My dining partner and I decided to be seated in the outdoor seating area because it was such a beautiful evening. We were greeted by Molly who would be our server for the evening. By the way if you call for reservations I highly recommend asking if you can be seated in Molly’s serving area. She has been there just about as long as J Bistro has been open and she is a delight. Your dining experience will be one you will remember for a long time.
Under Molly’s helpful direction I ordered the Shrimp Risotto which is seared Hawaiian Spot Prawns, Asparagus Tips and Sun Dried Tomatoes tossed with Creamy Risotto laced with Basil Pesto and Crispy Prosciutto di Parma. My dining partner decided on the Brook Trout topped with Nueske’s Bacon Lardons, Roasted Mixed Peppers and Toasted Pistachio Nuts over Thyme Scented Heirloom Potatoes and Mixed Squash “Spaghetti”, Drizzled with Freshly Squeezed Lemon and Balsamic Gastrique.
After we sampled the very interesting and tasty bread basket, Molly delivered our respective dishes with great ceremony. As you can see from the pictures on the website the Chefs fully understand the importance of presentation. Upon our first taste my dining partner and I both exclaimed that we felt like we had just been transported to Paris. Our meals were exquisite and we finished every bite. We shared one of Pastry Chef Karen Schafer’s delectable deserts with excellent coffee to complete our evening.
If you are ever in the Fort Myers area do yourself a favor and make your way to J Bistro. They are located at 15291 McGregor Blvd. (the same street that Thomas Edison lived on) and the zip code is 33908. Their phone number is 239-489-3350 and they are open for lunch from 11:00AM to 2:00PM Tuesday through Friday and for dinner from 5:00PM to 9:30PM Tuesday through Saturday. You can thank me later.
