Rapper T.I. in jail has posted a letter to his fans, found on his website. Inmate #59458-019 sits in an Arkansas prison on an 11-month sentence for violating his probation. On December 7, 2010, while in prison, T.I.’s seventh studio album, “No Mercy,” was released.
Rapper T.I. is no stranger to a cell. He’s already served three stints in jail. Recently, he was released from prison in December of 2009 for U.S. federal weapons charges. Now, T.I. sits in jail again for being found with drugs, and therefore, violating his probation. But rapper T.I. in jail says to his fans, “I don’t consider myself done by far.”
There’s not much to do in jail. You can work a little, lift weights, watch T.V., and read fan mail, which rapper T.I. in jail says he does a lot of. “I’d like to give a very special thank you to all the fans who’ve been writing me and lifting my spirits every day. I read all of them. Although I would never be able to write you all back,” says T.I.
But there’s another thing T.I. is doing a lot of, and that’s thinking about his life. The thing about a rapper is that many people almost expect them to do a few jail sentences. But we can assume that T.I.’s goal is not to do that anymore. “It doesn’t matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me. What matters is that I’ll be a better man before that time comes. The longer I sit, the smarter I get,” says T.I. “Let me assure you all that I am definitely keeping my head up. I don’t consider myself done by far.”
Rapper T.I. in jail says he’s been talking to God about his life and how to live it. “What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when possible to those who need it most?” He also says that some of his conversations with God may end up on his next album.
The Internet allows musicians to keep in touch with their fans perhaps better than concerts or other ways of promotion. As long as rapper T.I. in jail keeps that human touch, he can return where he left off. And with as much thinking as he is doing right now, with nothing to interrupt his thinking, his next album could be a huge success, a deep album full of emotions and life lessons.
