The year’s biggest award show comes to ABC On Sunday Feb 27 at 8et. Ten films have been included in this year’s list of top movies. These ten movies take you from England to the Old West and every where in between. Going into the show three films are the favorite for the award. ” ” Black Swan “, ” The King’s Speech ” and ” The Social Network ” are the leading candidates but with the Oscars surprises do happen. ” The Kids are All Right “, ” The Fighter “, ” Inception “,” 127 Hours “, ” True Grit “, ” Winter’s Bone ” and ” Toy Story 3 ” could surprise everyone and take home the award.
I am not gonna ramble on about how this movie got this award and this movie got that award. My rankings of these Oscar contenders is based solely on what I believe is the best work and deserves to be given the Oscar. With that said here is my rankings of the 10 films that are up for the Best Picture Oscar.
#1 “Black Swan” Darren Aronofsky is Turing into one of the great director’s of our time. Natalie Portman turns in the best performance of the year by a man or woman. Mila Kunis does not get the praise she deserves. The performance by these two ladies is unmatched by anyone.
#2 ” The Social Network” Facebook is a must for most teenagers these days and this being the loose story of how it was created made it a hit. Jesse Eisenberg does turn in a great performance but it is not Oscar worthy. This film is great because it shows how in true life friends will turn on each other.
#3 ” The KIng’s Speech” Colin Firth carries this movie. Without his great performance which he will win the Oscar for this movie would not be getting all this recognition. Geoffrey Rush and Helen Bonham Carter give great supporting help to Firth. Look for Colin to take home the only big Oscar for the film.
#4 ” The Fighter” Just like Mickey Ward himself this movie is an underdog and has a strong cast in Mark Walhberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams. With that said the best performance in the movie goes to Melissa Leo. Christian Bale will battle with Geoffrey Rush for the Supporting Actor nod. This movie is a testament to never give up.
#5 “The Kids Are All Right” This movie has a great story and is very current in today’s world. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are the movie. The performance these ladies gives is with out a doubt Oscar worthy. Because of the subject involved alot of voters will not touch this movie which is a shame.
#6 “127 Hours” James Franco has a knack of picking these movies that he can embrace and make them shine. Franco delivers for “127 Hours” and director Danny Boyle. Boyle has a talent of finding these small movies and turning them into giant films.
#7 ” Inception” This movie is like no other. Christoper Nolan put down his Batman cape and made this crazy movie. With great performances by Ellen Page and Leonardo DiCaprio this movie rode to box office success. With so many great films this year just to be included in this list is an honor.
#8 ” Winter’s Bone” Jennifer Lawrence and Debra Granik deliver in this film based on Daniel Woodrell’s 1996 book of the same name. When you can take a bunch of unknown actors and a unknown director and make them known is saying a great deal about this film. This is not the year for the little man but this movie is a must see.
#9 “Toy Story 3” Animated movies will never when the Best Picture Oscar in my mind. This movie made more money than all the other movies nominated but it lacks the punch the top films deliver. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are great actors and this movie is perfect for your kids but its not Oscar worthy.
#10 “True Grit” I love watching movies done by the Coen Brothers but when a remake doesn’t beat the original I do not see an Oscar in its future. Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfield do a great job.
I think it is hard in today’s film industry to take a western to the top it is possible but really hard.
Well their is my rankings of the top 10 movies that are up for the Best Picture Oscar. Tell me what you think and give me your rankings as well.
