Positive thinking works. If you are already thinking “yeah, but..” and choose to lament the times when you have tried to think positively but have endured trials anyway, then you don’t really understand the nature of positive thinking.
Positive thinking is not about denying or escaping reality. It is about choosing not to wallow in the negative but to look for the positive. One of the most inspirational writers and speakers on positive thinking has to be Norman Vincent Peale. He once wrote, in The Amazing Results of Positive Thinking, “A positive thinker does not refuse to recognize the negative; he refuses to dwell on it.” Positive thinkers look for the best. They choose to glean the best from even the worst possible conditions, build on the good, and move forward.
You can expect the best even when things around you look bleak. When you think positively and expect the best good things will happen.
How to think more positively.
In order to learn to think more positively among the best things you can do is seek good, look for blessings and benefits that are a part of your life. You will find them. The old adage is true that “there is always something to be thankful for.” There really is. Finding those things takes a deliberate act of will – positive thinking.
If you don’t choose positive thinking, if you don’t choose to seek good in all circumstances, the bad will inevitably drag you down.
One way to begin to practice the art of positive thinking is to consciously push out negative thoughts with positive ones. Do this by looking for purpose and the excitement of future prospects. As negative thoughts emerge immediately ban them from your mind. Keep your mind on track by feeding it a steady diet of uplifting and positive thoughts.
How positive thinking works.
Positive thinking is not magical. The art of positive thinking works on a simple concept. If you allow your thoughts to be filled with bitterness, anger, cynicism you act and project these attributes. These only serve to stir up strife, support a cycle of negativity, and repel people and opportunities. In other words, the way you think affects the way you act. That is why negative thinking drags you further into negative circumstances.
On the other hand, if you acknowledge that both good and bad exist in the world, but choose to focus on the good, you will act in accordance. As you emphasize good, good increases in your life. Positive, happy people attract people and opportunities.
