If history has not taught us anything, one thing that it should have is no one remembers the good things that you do while you are around or breathing. When you are accessible, they only concentrate on things that you don’t do. Brush off the haters, Mr. President and continue to march forward. As a former Marine, I can see that so far your policies are putting the country first and politics last and for that I offer you a well deserved “OHH-RAH”.
“With fellow Democrats balking, President Barack Obama declared Tuesday that a compromise with Republicans on tax cuts was necessary to help the economy and protect recession-weary Americans. He passionately defended his record against Democrats who complain he’s breaking campaign promises.” “Take a tally. Look at what I promised during the campaign. There’s not a single thing that I haven’t done or tried to do,” the president said.” “It’s tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers – unless the hostage gets harmed. Then, people will question the wisdom of that strategy. In this case, the hostage was the American people, and I was not willing to see them get harmed.” “This isn’t an abstract debate. This is real money for real people,” he said. “This package will help strengthen the recovery. That I’m confident about.” “It’s something that’s not done yet,” said Reid, D-Nev. “We’re going to have to do some more work,” he said after the meeting with Biden and members of the Democratic rank-and-file.” “Across the Capitol, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a statement that said merely, “We will continue discussions with the president and our caucus in the days ahead.” (Feller, Ben, 12/07/2010, Associated Press, Obama defends tax deal, says he’s kept promises, Retrieved from www.news.yahoo.com ).
Continue your journey sir and let nothing or no one stop you from making the best decisions you can when you remember to put country first. Many proclaim to give a damn but very few ever step up to the plate. Some suggest that America is willing to give a little more for their country but there has been a majority giving it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and for those seeing a leader putting us first is a very welcome change. You have done more than many who have come before you. They compare you now to those who occupied that space but the differences will be even clearer when you leave that office and the real historians take a look. Keep doing what you do because country first is the only way to go and I guarantee that you will never ever be alone.
The truly humorous thing about this is, the voters sent a majority to the House and the Senate and while the House proved to be one of the most productive in history, the same could not be said about the Senate. For those outside of the bubble of Washington who are now so upset about your decision, they did little if anything to persuade those in the Senate to follow the House lead and honor your request from the beginning. They did little to corral their representatives but they are going all out to corral you.
