If you are looking for a fun game that you’ll be wanting to play for at least a few minutes each day, Plants vs. Zombies is a good choice.Plants vs. Zombies is produced by PopCap, and it’s available in many formats, including versions for the PC and MAC, Smart Phone apps, iPod, Nintendo DS, and the X-Box. While the games all seem to be quite similar, this review is of the computer game version.
On the PopCap.com website, you can find all sorts of fun extras, including a semi-guide to throwing your own playing party, which is complete with printable party invitations with stickers. There are also little zombie extras to compliment your game play, including options for the creation of a customized zombie avatar for yourself.
Plants vs. Zombie is based on a rather simple concept. You are given the position of having a home and garden. You must use a wide variety of plants to fight the zombies off your lawn, and you have to do this before they get to your house. If a zombie enters your house, he will immediately consume your “brains” and win the portion of the game. Luckily, you have the chance to try again.
When you first start playing the game, it’s quite easy and simple. Yet, as you play the game, you go up in levels. It gets harder, but you also “unlock” lots of different parts of the game play, from plants to zombies to extras to help you in the fight.
Also, there are many avenues of play. A Zen Garden reveals itself as you play. It lives up to its name, allowing you to nurture the plans there in exchange for coins and rewards. The main section allows you to earn plants, chocolate, and coins as you fight zombies off your very green lawn. The Mini Games section can be played on its own, if you need a little break from all the lawn fighting. The Puzzle level involves active play with the zombie theme. When you’ve gotten really advanced at the zombie fighting, you’ll be allowed to play the survival modes.
There’s also another part of the game you don’t want to miss. Visit the Almanac section to giggle over the zombie and plant names and information. You can also use this section to decipher which plants you want to use against which zombies.
Be sure to use the Almanac, located on the main menu. Access it with a click of the mouse to get detailed info about the plants and zombies. Use this to decide the most effective plants to use against specific zombies.
Also, while the sound and music is top notch, this game can easily be played without sound. That’s a big plus for a portable game, since you can play it at the airport, the coffee shop, or even the library. It can be played from anywhere with little hassle, and you can easily stop it at any time and resume the game exactly where you are later.
It’s a great game for adults of all ages, yet it’s also great for families. Each family member can have his own playing screen and username. It’s also accessible for all player levels
