Oprah shared her hopes and dreams for her new cable channel during “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on December 30th. She compared the launch of OWN to the birthing of her baby. She explained that her whole reason for OWN is meant to inspire people to better their lives.
Winfrey’s partner in this exciting venture is Discovery Communications. They have paid more than $110 million in start-up costs and contributed channel space. OWN will share inspiring programs 24/7! Oprah believes that informative, quality programming that makes viewers think and live a better life is what television viewers are craving.

After the premiere show it will air at its regular night and time, Fridays 8/7c. This show shares the behind the scenes making of Oprah’s farewell season. Viewers will get an insider’s look at the people who dedicate their lives to producing “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
Do you have a question about your sex life? “In The Bedroom” with Dr. Laura Berman will air on Monday nights at 10/9c. Dr. Berman will share her 25 years of experience as a sex educator, researcher, and therapist. No subject will be off limits!
One of the most highly anticipated shows on OWN is “Oprah Presents: Master Class.” It will air on Sundays at 10/9c. Viewers will hear the untold stories that have shaped the lives of famous people. The first season ‘masters’ were handpicked by Oprah. They include Diane Sawyer, Simon Cowell, Dr. Condolezza Rice, Jay-Z, and Oprah herself.
If you’re a foodie, OWN has a couple of fun cooking shows premiering on Monday, January 3rd. Anna & Kristina’s “grocery bag” brings viewers two average home cooks trying to tackle the culinary arts. They will use a recipe from a different cookbook every day and be judged on their results. The show will air Monday afternoons at 3/2c. Cristina Ferrare’s “Big Bowl of Love” will follow at 3:30/2:30c. She will open her home to viewers, introducing family, friends and favorite foods.
Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King, will even have an OWN show. “The Gayle King Show” premieres January 10th at 10 am/9c. Gayle will bring her radio talk show to television to share her unique perspective on a variety of topics.
Oprah is searching for one lucky person who will get their very own OWN television show! Thousands of audition tapes were watched to pick the 10 finalists for “Your OWN Show” Oprah’s Search For The Next TV Star. This show will premiere on Friday, January 7th at 9/8c. The 10 finalists were introduced on the December 30th show of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” These finalists have great ideas for their own shows.
