I am a clean freak. I think it is because when I was growing up my mother wasn’t much into cleaning. That is not to say she never cleaned. She did, just rarely. You couldn’t open a drawer, cabinet or closet in our home without things falling out all over the place. Neatness or orderliness held no fascination for my mother, but I loved her anyway.
As far back as I can remember; however, I have been obsessed with cleanliness. Not quite to the point of compulsion, but close. Even as a child, I kept my room neat as a pin. I even took the cleaning chores over from my mother at about age 9; when I was big enough to handle a broom, vacuum, etc. and could reach the kitchen sink without standing on a stool.
Because I still like things to be clean, I am always on the lookout for new products that will make that job easier for me. Many work and many more fail. It can be a very frustrating process when the things you like the most are way out of your price range, especially in today’s tight economy.
Recently; however, on one of my husband’s and my fun jaunts to Williamsburg, he came across some new cleaning sponges he thought I would like. The odd thing is where he found them – – Office Max. Who would expect to find household cleaning products at an office supply store?
Better still, was the cost. Four Scouring Sponges came in a package for just $1.
I laughed at him at the time. There was no brand name on the product. It simply said 4 Scouring Sponges made by Kingsbridge International, Inc. of Chatsworth, California.
There was little information about the product or how it was to be used on the label. All there was were 4 brightly colored sponges covered in a slightly rough netting material. I figured they would be okay for the kitchen but little else. Boy was I wrong!
These $.25 sponges are among the best cleaning products I’ve ever tried. I have used net-type scouring pads in the past. Some have been successful; others not so much. All have torn apart easily and become ruined because dirt got trapped in the netting.
No so with these unique scouring sponges. The netting does not tear easily. I cleaned two bathroom floors with one sponge and it was still in excellent condition.
Dirt doesn’t get trapped in the netting. Because of how these sponges are made, the pores are too small to allow dirt to get trapped inside. It remains on the outside where you can squeeze it away.
I love this product. What a shame it isn’t better known or more widely carried. However, if you happen to have an Office Max nearby, I suggest you run, not walk, to it and find this cleaning product. For $1 total or $.25 a sponge, there isn’t a better product on the market today.
They come in an orange and white cardboard sleeve simply marked “Cleaning” 4 Scouring Sponges. They cost just $1. You might; however, want to stock up because as soon as others get a handle on the excellence of this product it will disappear fast. I can almost guarantee it!
