The NFL weather report hasn’t been this ominous in a while. But the past NFL weather reports this season were during the late summer and the fall. Now it is approaching winter, and it is finally starting to look and feel like it. This week has already been historic, as snow caused the Metrodome roof to collapse, and move the Vikings-Games game to Monday night in Detroit. Yet the rest of the NFL weather report for today isn’t that much better, especially in Chicago.
The problems with the Metrodome roof have already become a bigger story than the games this week. At the least, no other game needs to be postponed or moved, as weather will not keep the other 30 teams from playing on time. However, conditions could be a major problem in a few games.
The second most troubling NFL weather report is in Chicago, for the big clash between the Patriots and Bears. Two of the league’s best teams must battle each other and the elements, as snow has been falling all day, winds are between 35 and 50 mph, and the temperatures could be in the teens tonight.
Of course, both teams are used to cold weather, as the Bears have done it for years, and the Patriots have won big games in the snow before. Still, the conditions could very well slow down these red hot teams, in a game that both must win for playoff positioning.
The bleak NFL weather report isn’t limited to the Midwest, though. Pittsburgh will also be host to rain and snow showers, as the Steelers host the Bears. Washington will experience rainfall as the Redskins take on the Bucs, while the Bills-Browns game will also get drenched in Buffalo.
For good measure, rain is likely to fall in Jacksonville for the Raiders-Jaguars match-up, and in New Jersey during the Dolphins-Jets battle. Yet those conditions have a long way to go to match what’s happening in Minnesota and Chicago.
Normally, these kind of NFL weather reports make teams that play in a dome feel lucky. However, even domes aren’t safe this week – at least not the ones with the kind of covering the Metrodome has. As a result, the dome at Ford Ford will be hosting two games this weekend, starting with the Packers and Lions this afternoon.
While all eyes were on the Vikings and Giants this morning, the focus will turn to Chicago tonight, and the downfall over Soldier Field. Without a collapsed dome as an excuse, the Patriots and Bears must brush aside the weather reports – as will many other NFL teams throughout the day.
