The NFL games today will settle the Super Bowl matchup. But the NFL games today have four possibilities for the final game on February 6. The Steelers, Jets, Packers and Bears are the last teams left, leaving four combinations left for Super Bowl Sunday. In between analyzing the conference championships, pundits have tried to figure out what the best finale would be. However, considering the field for the NFL games today, it’s hard to say which pairing would be the best.
Without the Patriots around, each of the final four teams have solid shots to win it all. Therefore, whatever the pairing is on Super Bowl Sunday, it’s unlikely to have one big favorite. That, and the resume of the finalists, has fueled high hopes for the final matchup.
If the NFL games today go as expected, then the Steelers and Packers will play on February 6. Such a showdown would pair the biggest Super Bowl winners of all time, against the franchise that won the first two. It would also pair the experience of Ben Roethlisberger against the stats and rising star power of Aaron Rodgers.
But if the Steelers took on the Bears, it would also be steeped in tradition. Two of the most physical teams in league history would square off, with defensive stars like Troy Polamalu, Brian Urlacher, Julius Peppers and James Harrison. Pittsburgh would probably be more of a solid favorite, since Chicago is the most overlooked team left.
However, the most buzz worthy results from the NFL games today would put the Jets in the Super Bowl. Bringing Rex Ryan and his crew to Dallas would get pundits and columnists drooling for the full two weeks. In addition, the Jets would face a team they already played before, and lost to.
A Jets-Packers pairing would be the first one between two No. 6 seeds. But they have faced off before, in an ugly defensive struggle in midseason. There, Green Bay squeaked out a 9-0 slugfest, during a time when both teams were still working out their kinks.
But the NFL games today could also bring about a Jets-Bears rematch. In their last meeting, the two had a surprising shootout, with Chicago airing out a 38-34 victory. It was the Jets’ last loss to date, and a rematch between New York and Chicago would be a ratings dream.
In some years, there are potential Super Bowl matchups that look unappetizing. Yet those often bring about the best Super Bowls of all time, while the high profile ones sometimes disappoint. However, all four possible finales this year would generate huge buzz, and could well be toss-ups.
No matter what, the NFL games today will yield a Super Bowl that won’t be hard to hype. But they can only get one, which will be set in stone in Chicago and Pittsburgh.
