The NFL championship games 2011 feature two six seeds. However, if the NFL championship games 2011 have both six seeds prevailing again, it won’t be a major upset. The Jets already shocked the world by beating the Colts and Patriots, so defeating the Steelers would be less shocking by comparison. Meanwhile, it would be an upset if the sixth seeded Packers didn’t win the NFC, as it turned out. But if both Green Bay and New York win the NFL championship games 2011, it will be the biggest example yet of home field disadvantage this postseason.
In such a parity stricken time, road postseason success is more common place than it used to be. The 2006 Steelers and 2008 Giants can attest, as they each won the Super Bowl after three road victories. This year isn’t even the first time that two six seeds made it to the final four, as it happened in 2009.
But the NFL championship games 2011 might have one or both road teams come out ahead, unlike back in 2009. Yet back in 2009, the Steelers finally foiled the sixth seeded Ravens, while the Cardinals beat the favored Eagles. This year, the Steelers are once again facing a surging underdog in the Jets, as the Bears are the slighted home team against the Packers.
So far, hosts are a mere 3-5 in the postseason, as only the Bears, Steelers and Seahawks defended their turf. The Steelers needed a comeback to win last week, while the Seahawks shocked the Saints, and then fell apart on the road in Chicago. Nevertheless, in a time where a losing franchise can win in the playoffs, and a heavily favored Patriots team can go down, almost anything is possible.
If form holds in the NFL championship games 2011, the Packers and Jets would meet in the Super Bowl. Green Bay is expected to do so, while New York is being given a better chance this week. However, since this whole season has been unpredictable, the most startling results might be if the hosts both won.
The Bears and Steelers are certainly motivated, since they have been in the shadows this week. Chicago has been declared the underdogs in their own home, while Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers get all the attention. Pittsburgh is still favored to beat New York, but everyone is still talking about the Jets’ shocking run, and how they might behave during Super Bowl week.
It says something that the hosts of the NFL championship games 2011 are being overlooked, especially when they’re the Bears and Steelers. Yet they have their chance to shut everyone up, and prove that order can still be restored.
At the least, the NFL championship games are the last ones with home teams, since the Super Bowl is on a neutral site. The Bears and Steelers will hope to survive home field first, at 3 pm in Chicago, and 6:30 pm in Pittsburgh.
