It’s almost Christmas time. Maybe by the time this article is reviewed and published, Christmas will be here. Either way, I only really want one thing for Christmas. I want to break away from being dependent upon a job for my lively-hood. I’m going to do this in three steps. First, through Associated Content. Then, through something like Elance or perhaps by simply contacting potential clients directly. And finally, by creating my own products, and selling them. Why should you really care about my plan, and what does it have to do with you?
By talking about my plan, I am showing you my thought process, and maybe I’ll be able to help people to see that this is a step-down process, and not simply a one-shot affair, especially for someone who has been taught from nearly birth that having a job is the safest possible course of action. This will also help people see the thought process involved in creating a simple plan to achieve a goal, and then following through. Here is my plan. Maybe it’ll inspire someone to action as well.
Associated Content, or more properly, Yahoo! Contributor Network, is my first stop on the way to getting rid of the need for a job. Why here first? Well, I enjoy writing, and I believe that this is probably one of the best platforms for those starting out to get used to working for themselves, rather than for someone else. No one tells you what to do or when to do it, and if you don’t learn to police yourself, you won’t be getting paid as much. It will also let me know when my writing is something that no one wants to read, and when people like it, to help me refine my style. I plan on getting my earnings on Y!CN up to at least $900 a month (I know, that’s pretty high. I don’t care, I’m doing it, not you). And then stabilizing it, so that it is either at a steady number per month, or a steadily increasing number per month. Once my system for writing here is in place and subconscious, I can move on to the next step.
Yes. I say Elance, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll end up going there. This is just my plan, for the future, and once I reach this step, I’ll do further research to see what the best choice actually is for me. With my Y!CN experience behind me, I’ll be able to sell my services as an article writer. I’ll also be able to point at my Y!CN profile as a living example of my works, most likely with my most popular pieces showcased as the featured content on my profile. This will give me an edge when starting as a freelancer with more clients. I’ll also be able to start with lower prices, to get more contracts, since I’ll be living off of Y!CN income, and thus won’t need to make as much per article, and would instead need to be gaining good ratings and rave reviews from clients. After I have enough excellent reviews of my work, I’ll raise the price to a more appropriate and sustainable level. And then, I’ll move on to the final step.
My Own Products
Why would I move from a job, to Y!CN to freelancing and then to making and distributing my own products? Because selling your own products gives you control over the wheel. It also lets you do the work once and then get paid repeatedly for it. That’s one of the main reasons that I chose Y!CN as the first stop. Anyway, by this point, I will most likely have some idea of what I want to sell (most likely information). And I will be in a position to test to see what products will sell the best before I create them. That way, I’ll only spend my time creating products that people want. Although, I have a good idea for a few already, I know that I’m not in a position to do the appropriate testing or to send them live quite yet. I also want to make sure that my writing is at a high quality before turning it into a product for sale.
So, as you can see from my outlined plan here, there are a few hurdles for me to get over, but I believe this is my path. I know where I want to end up, and I have actively decided upon the main steps to getting there. As you can also see for yourself, I am actively stepping in that direction as well. These are the main steps to accomplishing a major goal, and I’m certain that if you also follow the steps of defining the end-point, and selecting the major stepping stones you wish to use, and then stepping boldly in that direction, you too will reach your goals.
