I, like most teens today went to prom, it was my senior year and like most teens I had been looking forward to it all year. The theme as I can remember was “one more night” and it was of course at my high school. I went with my boyfriend at the time, and I had one of the most unique dresses there because I had someone make it for me rather than buying it from the department store, or from the special events dress store in town.
The night before prom I stayed with a friend of mine in town (I live about 45 miles from my school so it was a logical thing to do) and my prom day started at about noon the next day. My friend and I went to my boyfriends to get ready. My friend got ready before I did because she had a date with her boyfriend for pre-prom dinner. My boyfriend and I had steak dinner at his moms house before we got ready. His mom helped me do my hair.
When it came to putting my dress on (I loved this dress), the zipper had somehow gotten warped and it wouldn’t zip up, it would go up but the teeth weren’t connecting so it had this ()shape to it when it was zipped all the way up. I was overly upset over it because I had waited so long for it be made just for me and to be custom fit to fit only my body and then (as I was thinking then) I didn’t get to wear it. My boyfriends mom had assured to me that she could just sew me into it, and then after prom we could just cut the stitching and get me out of it.
Three hours later, I was finally sewn into my prom dress, my hair and make-up was done and we were ready to go right? Wrong, we had to wait for my boyfriends dad to get off work (he’s a chiropractor in town) and that would be another 45 minutes, at the time I believe prom would be starting in about 30 minutes, and I’d miss promenade.
Finally we head off to the school and get out of the truck and get to stand in line for what seemed like forever, get our hands stamped (so we could get back in if needed), and head off to promenade, it was really cool seeing what some of the other kids were wearing. There was even two guys from our senior class dressed in the same color suits you see on one of the dumb and dumber movies (you know the light blue and the orange ones?).
After promenade, the dance starts, and my boyfriend and I get up and start dancing and we get tired so we go sit down. Our friend Gavin is there, and he’s dressed in his best and he looks amazing, given the fact he’s in a wheelchair, but we didn’t care, he was a cool guy. He didn’t come with a date but he was okay with that, I tried to get him out on the floor to dance with me, but he wouldn’t do it.
A few hours into the dance they announced the royalty, Prom King was Gavin, which we “kind of” rigged for him to win, everyone in our senior class liked him and though he should win being we were all going to be graduating soon, and it’d be a good thing to see him happy over. It was fun watching him on the dance floor with the prom queen, even if they didn’t really move much they were still cute.
Upon leaving prom, my boyfriends best friend didn’t get his “favorite” song played (he’s a real country boy) so he was in the parking lot playing it in his car full blast. It was funny walking out there to see him with his cowboy hat dancing around his car.
After prom we didn’t do like most teens do (get a hotel room), me, my boyfriend and a bunch of our friends went camping by the lake that my boyfriends family owns. I had fun camping, I’ve always liked camping, only thing I didn’t like was having to be “cut” out of my dress, it just made me even sadder than I was trying to put it on because then it wouldn’t come off.
The morning after prom my boyfriend and I went on a walk, and when me got back he called to the other people who were around to come join us around the fire. After everyone was there he called me over in front of them and got down on one knee. He proposed to me right on the spot, I had expected him to do it at prom, but he decided that after prom would be better and wouldn’t embarrass me as much.
