Hi, my name is Ranota and I’m addicted to Facebook. It started off when I started dabbling with instant messaging, and then I was introduced by my best friend to something a little harder: Myspace. Myspace afforded me the opportunity to connect with people I hadn’t seen in ages. I was also able to meet a long lost sister. This same sister turned me on to something even harder: Facebook. From here, I discovered a more adult crowd as it seemed like the kiddies were taking over my previous addiction with Myspace. I started playing some apps on Myspace, but eventually the format of Facebook grabbed me and hasn’t let go. From here, I instantly connected to people that I played with in my childhood, family that I was only able to see when I made the long trek to Michigan, and people who shared my passions. I found myself once again getting pulled in by the apps offered. I realized what a time suck these could be and quit them cold turkey. Every once in a while, a friend would send me an invite to an app; trying to lure me back from my productive ways. Well, it worked. I’ve fallen off the wagon and I’m very active in three apps right now.
This addiction isn’t all bad, my friends. I’m in the process of writing a book about veterans. All profits will be given to various programs that help vets in need. I was dead in the water before I got the bright idea to make a page for the book on Facebook. It didn’t take long for people to respond. Phone calls, posts, and emails started coming in like it was nobody’s business. Some are there for support, others have shared some very important tidbits of info, and many others have shared their experiences with me. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am without the power of social networking. I’m also lucky to have met these people. They’ve made my experience on this earth richer for their presence.
I never thought I would be so interested in what’s going on in so many people’s lives! It’s an addiction! I’m in the know about people’s birthdays, because in the right hand corner, I have a handy list of the current day’s birthdays. Speaking of which, I need to go check my wall, it’s my birthday today!
