In today’s world of automatic, pre-pay, virtual reality, with people plugged into their various devices, moving at the speed of light with franchise chain expectations of life. The Mesa Community Family Restaurant is an authentic local diner on Country Club Drive in Mesa, Arizona which is an oasis to come slow down and soak in a bit of old-time humanity.
The Mesa Community Family Restaurant is an authentic local diner. Not the kind with shiny chrome and splashy bright red booths. The kind of local diner that is just a little worn on the edges but still very clean and bright, the food is reasonable and delicious like Mom made it for you in the kitchen. That is if your Mom was a great cook of home-style food. One of those diner locals that still greet you with a genuine sense of being glad to see you, it is a local diner that holds a sense of place for the community. It is a sense that can’t seem to be captured by a pre-packaged franchise chain.
Spiro the spirited owner of the establishment greets each guest. Remembering his regulars he stops by their table and asks them about family, life and what’s going on in the community. I met him the first time I was invited to the diner for a casual meeting about three years ago and have been back to the diner on several occasions. At breakfast with a friend I had eggs that were cooked to perfection and coffee that may cause one to sigh involuntarily with its reviving goodness.
I brought my husband’s aunt and my girls back for lunch. The child friendly environment allowed me to relax. The kids ordered mac and cheese. It was the boxed kind yet it was what they wanted and they actually sat to eat after they had colored their placemats which are proudly displayed at the front register.
When my old friend from college came to town and I wanted to show her a place that could not be found anywhere else in the world. I brought her and my girls to the Mesa Community Family Restaurant. We took in the cast of characters that can be found there. Very representative of our Mesa community all vibrant with the discussion of the day, as a writer and lover of characters, I took it all in. Watching the people there was fun as I enjoyed a delicious hot tuna melt and just the right amount of salty, crispy fries. The girls munched on their mac and cheese while creating placemat art inspired by Picasso with the crayons that were provided for them.
Mesa Community Family Restaurant is the type of authentic local diner that one would place on their list of must go places if they were to move away and come back to town for a visit. This local diner gives a sense of hometown and that’s what makes it one of the best local diners. If you happen to find yourself in Mesa, Arizona maybe to take in a Chicago Cubs Spring Training game or enjoy the sunny winter weather stop by Spiro’s place on Country Club Drive and take in some home cooking and some old-fashioned family feeling at the Mesa Community Family Restaurant.
