by tree pony

Travelers heading through Ohio this summer should consider spending a weekend partaking of the tasty treats and wholesome fun afforded by the Annual Marietta Sweet Corn Festival.

The following is a trip planning guide that includes information on the festival as well as lodging and dining options.

Marietta Sweet Corn Festival

The Marietta Sweet Corn Festival will be held on July 16th and 17th, 2011 at the Armory Square in downtown Marietta.

Festivities will kick off on Friday at 6:00 pm with a corn hole contest, live music, face painting and merry-go round rides.

Saturday’s entertainment begins at 11:00 am and will include live music, sack races, coin hunts, corn eating contests, corn related arts and crafts as well as foods and beverages.

For those that will be driving to the festival, parking is available off Second, Butler and Forth Streets.

Dining in Marietta

While at the festival visitors may want to consider ducking into the Marietta Brewing Company for a dinner of Roasted Crab Crostini, Greek Feta Salad and a Malted Ribeye washed down with a pint of Mad Badger Stout or Parched Wissler Brown Ale.

The whole meal, including a drink and dessert, will set each diner back roughly $40 plus gratuity, but it is well worth it.

On summer weekends this laid back brewpub serves food from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm and alcoholic beverages until 2:00 am.

Lighter and less expensive fare may be had away from the festival at the Levee House on Ohio Street. It offers outdoor, riverfront seating and meals historically in the $7 to $18 per person range.

The Levee House is also the pickup and drop off location of the Historic Trolley Tours, which offers 90 minute guided tours of Marietta.
