Lindsey Lohan, we all know the name and we all know the legal problems she has faced recently, has taken a big chance this week by not accepting the plea agreement that she was offered in Los Angeles Superior Court. Facing a felony grand theft case linked to the theft of a $2,500 necklace from a local jewelry store, Lindsey maintained that she is innocent of the charges and believes that she can win an acquittal on the charges.
Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz had considered that if she would agree to plead guilty or no contest to the charges that he would give her a break and only sentence her to jail time. However, Miss Lohan being confident that she can win the case would not agree to the plea. She has maintained that she is innocent since the charges were first filed.
Now, Lindsey will face another judge on April 22,2011 who will decide if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. If the case is set for trial, then Lindsey could be facing an immediate sentence in a probation violation case that all goes back to her DUI arrest and conviction.
If Lindsey truly did not steal the necklace then I believe that she is doing what is best for her. However, if she did steal it, then she is taking a huge risk in facing possible jail time in both cases. She insists that the necklace was borrowed from the store and if the videotape that has been shown on some shows today is an indication of what really happened on the day that the alleged theft occurred, then I would say that she will have enough evidence to not face trial or at least not be found guilty.
Lindsey began her career as a child model at the age of 3. Her star quality shined after her appearance in the 1998 remake of Disney’s “The Parent Trap”. She continued her career by starring in several other popular movies such as “Herbie, Fully Loaded” and “Freaky Friday”. By the age of 17, Lindsey had won several awards and had become the youngest host of MTV’s Movie Awards. She seemed to have the acting world by the hand and leading it into the future.
Unfortunately as with many young television and film stars, Lindsey began to have some personal and legal problems in 2004 with several car accidents and some problems in filming due to personal issues. Her problems seemed to escalate as did her alcohol and partying scenarios. In 2007, she did a 30 day stint in rehab followed by a few more stints in rehab as well as some minor drug arrests. It seemed now that Lindsey might be headed down a path that no one wanted her on.
Now, 4 years later, she is still dealing with addictions, a DUI arrest , and now facing a felony theft case. Many family issues have arisen as well due to problems and a subsequent divorce between her parents. One must wonder if they were too caught up in their own problems to guide their daughter or if she just fell through the same holes as so many other young stars have. It seems as though Hollywood needs to have a better way of raising the children that they make into stars at such an early age so that we do not see so many young adults struggling with the demons of alcohol and drug abuse.
