Fifteen years ago, if you would have told me about the technology that exists today, I would have thought you watched one too many episodes of “The Jetsons”. Who could have foreseen how different our lives would be with the introduction of some amazing advancements in technology? Stay tuned for a summary of technology I never thought I would use.
Let’s face it. We’ve come a long way since the days of rotary phones! Do you remember when you’d have to wait to make a call until you were at home? Do you recall the answering machines, the busy signals, the waiting? Things sure have changed in a relatively short amount of time. Now we have the capability to call or text anytime, anywhere. It is strange to think that not so long ago, we didn’t have this luxury.
Do you remember when you had to trudge to the library to do research? Or the days when you actually had to leave the house to socialize with friends? The internet has forever changed our lives from how we interact with each other, do business and more. When my family had the internet installed in 1998, I remember thinking that it was the best day of my life!
Prior to all these fabulous technological advances, I was content listening to my tunes on a pink cassette player. Before the days of instant downloads, I, like everyone else in the early 90’s, purchased my music at a store and then listened to my heart’s content on my Walkman. Even more disturbing: We had to rewind our own tapes, either in the Walkman itself, or by using a pencil to manually rewind the tape. Clearly, hitting the skip or back button was not an option!
Gone are the days of flipping through maps on long road trips, taking the wrong turn off of the freeway and getting lost on your way back from the Jersey shore. Never, in a million years did i think we’d have this kind of technology installed in our cars. I assumed the passenger seat was always designated to the “Trip Navigator”; instead now the passenger can nod off while the GPS guides the way. The GPS took the guess work out of driving in unfamiliar territories. The little monitor that sits upon your dashboard even speaks and gives warning sounds when you are approaching an expected turn. “Trip Navigator” is certainly one job I was happy to give up!
Motion Sensored Video Gaming
This puts my old Nintendo gaming system to shame! Motion Sensored Video Gaming Systems such as the Nintendo Wii, Playstation Move or Xbox Kinect bring video gaming to a whole different level. The technology senses your movements, allowing you to feel like you are really in the game. Where was this back in 1992?!
We have certainly experienced some massive strides in technological advancement. It really makes you wonder: How on earth did we live without it?
