Kirstie Alley is pursuing a small goal as being a “Dancing with the Stars” season 12 contestant. The 60-year-old actress doesn’t have her eye on the mirror ball trophy, but a more important goal she has set for herself on “DWTS” in 2011. For some the pursuit isn’t so small, but when it comes to dancing you butt off in rehearsals the goal is relatively tiny.
Kirstie wants to lose 30 pounds during her time on “DWTS,” she told Us magazine.
“I’ve lost 60 pounds, and I have 30 or 40 more to go,” Kirstie told Us after the season 12 cast announcement. “And I think with this strenuous, rigorous dance schedule, I think it’s going to work. It’s exciting.”
Kirstie Alley Gave Into “DWTS” Execs, Signed on for Show
For the past few seasons Kirstie Alley’s name has been tossed around as a rumored contestant to appear on “Dancing with the Stars.” When it came to the 2011 season, her name was less mentioned — possibly because people started to give up on her ever signing on. After she was one of the names announced to be on “DWTS” in season 12, she noted her hesitance of accepting offers from ABC.
When execs of “DWTS” were persistent enough, Kirstie decided to sign on with the show. She was flattered that they had so much confidence in her to dance on the reality show.
Kirstie’s First Rehearsal Hard, Easier Now
She told Us magazine that she was in a lot of pain the first day of rehearsal and wanted to run home, but said the next day was better and today it was even easier. By the time Kirstie appears on the first episode of “Dancing with the Stars” she may have already made reached her “small” goal of losing 30 pounds. The majority of “DWTS” contestants lose weight and some don’t always shed the pounds, however, it may be something that happens quickly for Kirstie.
“Dancing with the Stars” 12 premieres Monday, March 21, 2011 at 8:00 p.m., ET on ABC.
