It’s important to teach our kids about the planet we live on. My daughter recently had a test on the solar system, and not only could she name all the planets and their attributes, she also learned how wonderful and precious Earth is. Below find some child-friendly activities for Earth Day whether they be for fun, to learn or to help.
There is a lot you can do (volunteering) in your community, and a lot of local communities either set up festivals, recycling centers, park clean-ups and more on Earth Day. And if they don’t do it on Earth Day, sometimes a town will have a schedule for those sort of opportunities on different dates.
Sharing these activities with your kids will give them pride in their community and teach how we can live Eco-friendlier lives and help others to do the same.
Check your local park service or government website for more Earth Day information (or general info)
CRAFTS, PUZZLES AND PROJECTS
Below find a list of fun games, crafts and projects that are either Eco-friendly to make or use Eco-friendly materials.
My kids love doing these, and you don’t have to buy the sand. You use sand from the beach, newspaper which you can recycle, and bottles with tops that you have around the house.
Earth Day Word Search
Don’t print it out. Have the kids look at the computer screen to find the words. If they need to write them down, re-use the back of a piece of paper or envelop etc…
Earth Day Coloring Pages
Print these out, use the backs of the paper. Have kids use water colors and crayons that can be re-used.
Pine Cone Feeders and More
Just one of the many projects you can do with your kids (or yourself). Make a bird-feeder out of a pine-cone, Crisco, oats or cornmeal and bird seed.
Solve puzzles (soduku etc…) that also teach about being green
