More horrible news for the Tampa area, a mother murdered her two teenage children because she said they didn’t listen to what she wanted them to do and were mouthy. Julie Schenecker, 50, admitted to killing her two teenage children sixteen year old Calyx Schenecker and thirteen year old Beau Schenecker on Thursday night in New Tampa. The police found the bodies of the two children Friday, both had gunshot wounds.
Julie Schenecker shot her son Beau twice in the head on their way home from soccer practice. When she reached home, she went to her daughter’s bedroom and shot her daughter twice in the head while she was busy doing her homework. Schenecker shot her two children with a .38 caliber hand gun she bought five days earlier. The Police went to the home when Schenecker’s mother called them from Texas saying she was concerned about her daughter and grandchildren. When the police came to her house, Schenecker was sitting on the back porch in a bloody robe.
Schenecker was arrested on two counts of first degree murder and she admitted the murders to the police. Julie Schenecker told the police she planned to kill her children and then commit suicide. One wonders why she just didn’t kill herself and leave her children alone.
Julie Schenecker was sent to the hospital because she was shaking when she was arrested. She was in the hospital for two days and was released tonight. She was taken back to jail where she will be arraigned on two counts of first degree murder for killing her own children. The hospital would not comment on what was wrong with Julie Schenecker except to say the condition was something that was wrong before she murdered her children.
Julie Schenecker’s husband is Parker Schenecker who is a Colonel in the US Army stationed at Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. He is currently in Qatar serving his country.
Why a mother would murder her own children is beyond reason. This is a tragedy. Beau was a thirteen year old teenager who was an incredible goalie on his soccer team. His sister Calyx was on the track team, was a sophomore at King High school and was in the International Baccalaureate Program. Both children had wonderful futures that were snuffed out by their own mother, Julie Schenecker. A note left by Julie Schenecker describes how she planned to kill her children and then herself was found by the police in the Schenecker home
Julie Schenecker will likely spend the rest of her life in prison for killing her two children. Her husband and mother will likely spend the rest of their lives mourning the loss of the children. The rest of will close our eyes (say our own prayers) and wonder how a person could commit premeditated murder against her own children. Likely the why will never be answered in this horrible tragedy?
Monday update: Julie Schenecker went in front of the judge this morning and will not be let out of jail before her trial, she will be sent back to her jail cell until her trial begins. She was investigated three months ago for abusing her daughter, the case was closed because there were no evident injuries on Calyx. Now the two children are dead because their mother Julie Schenecker murdered them.
Update Feb 19, 2011
Julie Schenecker pleads not-guilty in court this week, her husband visits her for the first time and informs her he is divorcing her. Julie Schenecker has a public defender to help her through her trial, but her husband will not be there to help defend the murderer of his children.
