When visiting Galveston, Texas, we recently went to the Joe’s Crab Shack Restaurant located at 3502 Seawall Blvd. We knew that we were looking for a great seafood dish and found what we were looking for here.
The restaurant looks great from the outside with a big neon sign. They have a small playground area set up for kids. Once we entered, we told them that we had a party of four. They told us the wait would be about 40 minutes so we found a seat at the bar and waited our turn. We ordered a few mixed drinks and they were amazing. You have to pay for them at the bar if you are waiting on a table, but this was not a problem for us.
We were seated in a lot less time than they told us we would need to wait. I would guess we had a seat in less than 15 minutes. Once seated, they immediately got our drink orders. The tables all have buckets on them and big rolls of paper towels. The buckets are to place your crab leg shells and other waste in to keep them off your plate.
We loved the atmosphere of this place. The waiters and waitresses all seemed to love their jobs. They would stop every once in awhile and do a dance to the music that was playing. They would even try to get guests to stand up and join in with them. The lights would dim and they even had some disco style lighting to go with the music. It was a lot of fun!
I ordered a Joe’s Classic Steampot. This was a pot full of food. It had potatoes, an ear of corn, boiled shrimp, a large piece of smoked sausage, sweet snow crab, and Dungeness crab. This was a ton of food and it was amazing! They brought out a bib and put it on everyone that ordered the crab legs. It came with butter for dipping. You can order one of these for one person or one that has enough for two. It ended up being too much for food for me. It was some of the best food I have ever eaten. Every bit of it was amazing. The corn was a bit firm, but still tasted great. I could not have asked for a better meal. I paid about $22 for it, but it was worth every penny.
My husband ordered a steak. He said that all of it was great. I took one bite of it and it seemed to be cooked perfect. A friend with us ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. It was very rich, but it wonderful. I tried a bite of it and loved it, but no way could I eat an entire piece. It was huge!
Overall it was an excellent experience. We loved the food, the service, and the atmosphere. We will be going here again if we are ever in the area and I would recommend it to anyone!
