One of the bigger stars of the popular MTV show Jersey Shore, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, will be hosting the March 14 edition of Monday Night Raw. The announcement was made by World Wresting Entertainment on last week’s episode of Raw, which included showing a video package of Snooki’s best highlights during her time on Jersey Shore. The popular show is currently in its third season, and is receiving record ratings. Snooki has been a staple of the show throughout the three seasons, and is one of the main characters.
Snooki is likely to be used sparingly on next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. If I had to take a guess, I would say she will be used to open the show and fire up the crowd with a promo. She will most likely be used in a couple of backstage promos with some of the top faces of the WWE, someone like a John Cena or Randy Orton. She might close the show by being a ring announcer for the main event, like some of the previous guest hosts have done. There is virtually no chance that Snooki will have a wrestling match, because WWE wouldn’t take that risk, not to mention that she has no wrestling experience.
This could be a move by the WWE to upstage Total Nonstop Action (TNA), their closest wrestling competitor. TNA had the idea first to bring in some of the cast members of the Jersey Shore as early as late last year. Last October, Jenni “JWoww” Farley made her TNA debut, and appeared on an episode of TNA Impact, appearing as a face and taking out Cookie. Angelina Pivarnick was the second Jersey Shore castmate to appear on TNA, as she appeared last week with Cookie and Robbie E to confront The Beautiful People. But those two castmates pale in comparison to Snooki, who is a much bigger star than both of them.
This seems like a big move for WWE, getting Snooki to guest host Monday Night Raw. WWE did quit having Guest Hosts last year after the debut of the Raw Anonymous General Manager, but is bringing it back for at least one night next week. The Raw Guest Hosts did bring attention to the brand, but it ran its course and booking a celebrity to host the show every week was too hard to do. Snooki is one of the bigger stars at the current moment, and this could bring a whole new fan base for wrestling and the WWE in general. Having Snooki on the show could bring in a whole new demographic of viewers, and that would mean good things for the wrestling business.
