Multitudes of worldwide Adam Lambert fans are waiting with baited breath to learn the outcome of the 2011 Grammys. Lambert is nominated for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his single Whataya Want from Me. In a world where the votes are based solely on merit Lambert would win, but after the American Idol outcome fans are cynical. No matter if Lambert wins or looses chances are he will have many more future opportunities.
Those that follow Lambert closely know that Adam Lambert will be this generation’s iconic entertainer. Many, especially in the US, do not yet grasp the phenomena. There are signs that Lambert will make it easy for disbelievers to get it. He is out to once again seduce Middle America.
Adam Lambert never needed to do anything but sing to be an outstanding entertainer. His voice is a rare treasure enhanced by technical training and his ability to impact emotions deriving from his very pure soul. Lambert’s breathtaking acapella and striped down acoustics are even more stunning than his studio productions. Like Lambert’s voice his movie star handsomeness never needed enhancement. The guyliner, glitter and glam are merely the unnecessary adornments of his artistic expression.
This week Lambert charmed the cast of The Talk including legendary Ozzy Osborne’s wife, Sharon, while he passed the manliness test by throwing Sara Gilbert over his shoulder, proving that he is adept at the fireman’s carry. As Lambert mesmerized the cast it was evident that his make up was at a minimum. Later on Ellen Lambert sang a subdued but enchanting version of his Grammy nominated song Whatta Want From Me.
On Access Hollywood Lambert told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover:
“Yeah, I’m feeling less rhinestones these days,” Adam said. “Just a little bit more, like, cool and comfortable.”
Lambert knows that as an entertainer he must be an artist and a businessman. Madonna’s longevity is a result of her ability to reinvent herself time and time again. In order to take his popularity to the next level Lambert has to embrace the comfort zone of the masses. This week Lambert is out and about reclaiming the mainstream that loved him on American Idol and then distanced themselves after his AMA performance.
Lambert has the intelligence to understand that there is a different expectation when the audience invites you into their home to perform on their televisions then when the entertainer invites an audience to a concert.
Any trailblazer capable of taking society in a new direction has to experiment to find if it is best to move dramatically or incrementally. Adam Lambert is finding that balance. My prediction is that in the not so distant future Lambert will be selling out large venues and millions of albums due to the magnitude of his talent and the appeal of his persona.
Win or lose at this year’s Grammys Lambert will display the same poise and class as he did when he obviously deserved to win the American Idol trophy. Win or lose, that Grammy belongs to him.
If you think I’m wrong, just listen to Lambert and the competition.
The Nominees for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance are:
Haven’t Met You Yet – Michael Bublé
The video takes place in a grocery store and has been viewed over 32 million times. There is no doubt that Bublé is popular and has a good voice but when you put Bublé and Adam Lambert head to head in a song like Feeling Good you realize that Lambert is a seriously talented crooner. Bublé may be Feeling Good but Lambert is Feeling Good and sexy as hell!
“Feeling Good“ is a song written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the 1964 Broadway musical “The Roar of the Greasepaint-the Smell of the Crowd.” Sammy Davis sang it, Bublé sang it and Adam sang the Muse version on American Idol. If you remember the white suit and Adam’s strut down the hot pink stairs here is that video. There is no doubt that Bublé has vocal chops but Adam’s vocals are technically unmatched. When you think of a voice as an instrument Lambert’s instrument and what he can do with it puts him in the realm of the all time greats in multiple genres. It is like the difference between a Cadillac and a Lamborghini.
Here’s Bublé to compare:
This Is It – Michael Jackson
There is no doubt that Michael Jackson had Lamborghini talent. You could write a book about the awards Jackson won over his lifetime. It is interesting that one of Adam Lambert’s most impressive performances on American Idol was Jackson’s Black or White. Adam came out fierce, singing Michael Jackson, flashing his baby blues and looking very Elvis. Listen to what the judges say.
Adam Lambert- American Idol Top 13 Black or White
As much as I love Michael Jackson I do not think that this performance tops Adam Lamberts.
Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
Mars has been nominated for seven Grammys. I do not think that this song is Bruno’s best chance at a Grammy. Vocally he is not in Adam Lambert’s league or Bublé’s, Jackson’s or Mayer’s for that matter. Mars is the weakest singer but is popular and currant. I do not believe that Mars will win seven Grammys so hopefully this one will be Adam’s.
Half of My Heart – John Mayer
I love John Mayer but this song is not the international hit that Whataya Want From Me is. What I hope is that the Grammy award goes to the man that is undeniably one of the most talented people in the music industry. Adam Lambert is currently the best live performer on the planet. My question is not if he should win this award it is why was he only nominated once?
Whataya Want From Me – Adam Lambert
How many ways can a vocalist sing the same song? In Adam’s case the ways are endless.
