Most people are not eating enough fruit. Maybe you don’t like to just eat a piece of fruit by itself because you find it boring, if so you can add it to the foods and beverages you commonly eat and enjoy. There are many ways you can include fruit into your diet that you may not have thought of before.
Fruit for Breakfast
A great way to include fruit in your breakfast is to cut up some fruit into your cereal or oatmeal and wash it all down with a glass of fruit juice instead of coffee. Fruit also tastes delicious on pancakes and waffles. Try a bagel topped with cream cheese and sliced strawberries. Topping a bowl of fruit with some crunchy granola is also a great way to start your day with a serving or two of fruit.
Add Fruit to a Beverage
Instead of reaching for a can of soda make a refreshing glass of lemonade or limeade made with real lemons and limes, fruit juice or brew a pitcher of homemade fruit tea. You can add any of your favorite fruits to a pitcher of ice tea to make a delicious fruit tea. Fresh oranges, lemons, limes, and raspberries go great with tea. You can squeeze the fruits and add only the juice or you can add chunks of fruits along with the juice for the healthy fiber that is found in fruit. You will not get the fiber if you only drink the fruit juice; you must eat the fruit. A plain glass of water is always better with a delicious wedge of fruit.
Make Deserts with Fruit
All you need is a little creativity to create great deserts that include a serving of fruit. You can make apple and peach crisps, fruit pies, add fruit to a milk shake or yogurt, cakes topped with fruit such as angle food cake topped with strawberries or pineapple upside down cake, banana bread, apple slices dipped in caramel sauce, gelatin with fruit mixed through it and cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips with apple salsa to include nutritious fruit while having a tasty desert.
Cook Meats with Fruit
Everyone has heard of lemon pepper fish, lemon chicken and ham cooked with pineapple slices but you can add fruit to other meats as well. Chicken, pork chops and steak also taste great cooked with pineapple and oranges. Don’t forget that tomatoes are fruits too, so when you are eating spaghetti and meatballs you are eating a serving of fruit and you might not even realize it.
Fruit is a very important part of your diet because it is full of fiber that aids healthy digestion and vitamins such as vitamin c that will help you develop a healthy immune system. So the next time you are looking for something to eat consider choosing a meal or snack that includes fruit. Not only will it taste good it will also be good for you too.
