I want to start my own company, what should I be doing? Believe me when I tell you this, the first things you should do, is the proper word to use. There is no one thing you should do, there are a ton of things you have to do. If I analyzed my parent’s past experience, and then did the same to myself, I would have to say the single most important thing is……analyze your personal self. Look at the kind of lifestyle you live, how do you manage money, are you a go-getter, or are afraid to take risk. Knowing how you handle everday life, is a primary focus, because it will be manifested in your business. When we engage up on new quest in life, we are motivated, but when things require time, attention, constant work and so on…..motivation, slowly turns into frustration. On the positive side however, you can be prepared, so let’s just say that’s my number one thing you need to do. Be prepared to own your own Company.
To prepare for starting your own company, is to access all the pros and cons, all the ups and downs and all the ins and outs of your fundamental understanding of what it takes to be successful. And, the best way to start preparing, is by accessing yourself. Organizing your life is the key to preparing yourself for a business venture. Start with your thoughts; think business, be business. Get acquainted to people and items, that help keep you focussed on managing your business life and your personal life(just seek instructions and items that help you manage the events that take place in your business life and personal life). Access your strengths and weaknesses. Take a closer look at your finances, get involved in your work place 401(k) plans and learn how to manage them strategically. Focus on maintaining healthy relationships in your household and in business. In summary, begin to manage, placing everything in proper perspective and order. Once you’ve spent tons of time on that, then you need to be educated in business in general. Wether it’s college, or trade school, the Internet, or by books and people, gather as much of an understanding of business as you can and understand all of it. After you’ve educated yourself, your next step is to gather resoures. Resources makes a lot of otherwise, tedious goals and tasks, a whole lot easier. The last step in preparation, is a detailed business plan. And the process of developing a business plan, should take you tons of time. The first buisness plan I every wrote(unprofessionally), was well over 100 pages in length. Remember, understanding the fundamentals of something are the building blocks of preparation, and preparation is vital to success. Successful buisness owners, have told me time and time again, that they prepared themselves to open a business for years, before they made one single attempt to do anything. If you don’t believe, go into some small businesses and ask the owners how long it took them to open their companies, how much preparation time did they incorporate and so on. The latter statement’s type of surveying, will give you an up close reality glimpse of all that is going to be required from you to start you own company. As always, thanks and I know this information is helpful, so use it.
