Oregon drivers of vehicles and even motorcycle riders usually get a learners permit before obtaining a regular drivers license. To get a permit, the key step for all applicants is taking and passing a written Oregon permit test. Keys to passing this test include a course in drivers education and study of official Oregon drivers manuals. Another way to improve the chance of passing is to take several Oregon permit practice tests. Studying provides knowledge, and taking the learners permit practice tests gives an applicant familiarity with the types of questions presented on the test.
Get the proper Oregon Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles drivers manual. The vast majority of applicants for an Oregon learners permit will need to obtain and study either the regular drivers manual, motorcycle manual or CDL manual (this one is for commercial drivers like truckers and bus drivers). You can get access to all of these manuals on the Oregon DMV web page at oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/forms/manuals.shtml. This state even has an audio version for the regular and CDL manuals. If you have a moped, you should also use the Oregon motorcycle manual.
Besides studying the substantive material, some versions of the manuals also have Oregon permit practice tests. Use these and other tests to refine your multiple-choice test-taking skills.
Note on All Practice Tests:
Only the Oregon DMV can provide official information on the state’s traffic laws and road rules for test takers. This means that you need to refer to the most up-to-date version of the manual for your permit type to confirm that the information is correct. Otherwise, you may end up relying on old information that is no longer accurate.
Besides the final exam, you can also take plenty of Oregon practice permit tests through a drivers ed program. If you are not required to take such a program (most Oregon drivers are), you can still use the course materials to do practice tests for your Oregon learners permit. Contact a current student or instructor if you need a copy of the course curriculum and study materials.
Now that you have studied the actual material for the exam, you can move on to some additional exams for practice and review purposes. Several online sites have free practice exams for the Oregon drivers permit. Use any of the following to help prepare yourself before test day:
