There’s one universal fact that’s true for pretty much every vacation to Walt Disney World: it’s going to cost you. Even if you stay at a budget hotel and try to keep from spending too much on souvenirs and food, there’s no denying that Disney trips have gotten pretty expensive. As a result, travelers all over the place are looking high and low for deals that will help them save on their next trip to Walt Disney World. If you’re a budget traveler, you’ve probably seen all sorts of discount offers or hints about where to find the cheapest eats. However, there’s probably a big money-saving source that you’re overlooking: your local grocery store.
When you think about saving money on your next Walt Disney World trip, it’s unlikely that your local grocery store or drugstore comes to mind. Most grocery stores don’t exactly deal in park tickets, dining credits, or Mickey Mouse ears. However, there are a million and one things that you might need for your Disney vacation that you can, in fact, buy at the corner grocery store. You just need to know what you’re looking for:
Here are some money saving grocery store ideas for your trip to Walt Disney World:
(1) Buy it at home. Walt Disney World does a great job of providing everything that a weary traveler might need while he or she is away from home. You can buy medicine, first-aid supplies, snacks, shampoo, and even diapers at most of the resort stores on Disney property. Of course, all of that convenience comes at a price and Disney prices are incredibly high, even for the most common of items. So, it’s a good idea to be that person who goes on vacation fully prepared for any and all events. Breakfast bars, snack bags, band-aids, blister pads, sunscreen, aloe-vera, body lotion, Tylenol, tea bags, and laundry detergent are all things that might come in handy while you’re at Walt Disney World and you’ll save an unbelievable amount of money if you buy them while you’re still at home.
(2) Learn to coupon shop. If you aren’t familiar with coupon shopping, get ready to start saving some big money. Coupons are everywhere these days. You can find them in online, in your newspaper, and in the weekly mailers that show up in your mailbox without you even asking for them. Many coupons are for items such as candy, snacks, first-aid supplies, sunscreen, and soap…all things that you’ll probably need while you’re in Walt Disney World. Best of all, many stores have their own coupons (in addition to the general manufacturer’s coupons you find in the paper) and big retailers, including Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid, will let you use both a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. That means that you get double the savings and might end up paying only a few pennies for items you can use while on vacation.
(3) Think big. When you’re shopping at the grocery store for your upcoming Disney vacation, don’t just stop by the travel-sized soaps aisle and call it good. There are many larger items that could come in very handy on your vacation, including packs of bottled water, instant oatmeal (to be made with hot water from your resort room coffee pot), family-sized bags of chips and treats, or even rain slickers and umbrellas. Don’t let the size of these items dissuade you from picking them up before your vacation. Many people fill at least one suitcase with these kinds of items because it frees that suitcase up for souvenirs on the trip home. You can also send yourself a large package filled with these grocery store goodies. Just address is to yourself at the resort you’re staying at and write your anticipated arrival date on the package. Even with mailing costs, you’ll be saving money if you buy these things at the grocery store instead of on Disney property…especially when it comes to bottled water!
