Several weeks ago, I went shopping for valentine decorations. I was unable to find anything nice, with most major stores only having cards and candy. I normally do not decorate for the holidays, but one of my New Year’s resolutions was to put out a few tasteful decorations for the different holidays throughout the year. I decided if I could not find any decorations to buy, I would need to make them. My dining room table needed a small valentine centerpiece, so I started thinking about using wooden heart cutouts, and came up with a cute craft.
Items Needed to Make a Valentine Circle of Hearts Decoration
Different sized wooden heart cutouts (1 one-fourth inch wide, 1 one-half inch wide, 7 three inch wide, 6 two inch wide, 2 one inch wide)
-Red and white Acrylic paint
-Glue gun (optional)
How to Make a Valentine Circle of Hearts Decoration
Feel the wooden heart cutouts for rough edges and smooth them down with sandpaper. Be sure to wipe off any wood debris left from the sanding.
TIP: To avoid the painted wooden hearts sticking to paper, place them on wax paper to dry.
Paint the three-inch, one-fourth inch, and one-inch wide wooden heart cutouts with red Acrylic paint and set them aside to thoroughly dry. Paint all hearts with one coat of Mod Podge and let dry.
Paint the one-half inch and two-inch wide wooden heart cutouts with white Acrylic paint and set them aside to thoroughly dry. Paint all hearts with one coat of Mod Podge and let dry.
TIP: Before Mod Podge dries, sprinkle all hearts with glitter over an open shoebox. Tap or shake off excess.
Arrange six of the red three-inch wooden heart cutouts in a circle with the bottom points facing the center of the circle. When you have these arranged the way you want, glue the sides together where they join and let them dry thoroughly.
Arrange one each two-inch wide white wooden heart in the center of one each red wooden hearts that you just glued together. Glue each white wooden heart in place and let them dry thoroughly.
Glue one each of the red one-inch wide wooden hearts to one each of the white two-inch wide hearts. Place these opposite from each other in the circle.
Glue the one-half inch white wooden heart to the center of the remaining three-inch red wooden heart and let it dry. Next, center and glue the one-fourth inch red wooden heart in the center of the one-half inch white wooden heart, and let it thoroughly dry.
Place the single, three-inch wooden heart topped with the one-half and one-fourth inch hearts, in the center of the circle of wooden hearts and glue in place.
Your valentine circle of hearts is now ready to display.
Alternative #1: Place a bracket on the back and hang it on a wall or door.
