Previously I discussed in How to Layer on Fragrance for Valentine’s Day: Start with Hair and Body, how to layer your fragrance to create your ‘scentuous’ foundation for Valentine’s Day. Now discover which type of antiperspirant/deodorant should be used to complement your foundation scent for Valentine’s Day. Also, learn how to apply your perfume of choice for the final sensuous layer that will leave your mark on your valentine.
Your Antiperspirant Must ‘Scentuously’ Match or Complement Your Scent of Choice
The scent of your antiperspirant/deodorant is essential for your fragranced beauty regimen on Valentine’s Day. Vary rarely does a “Shower Fresh” scent mingle with an oriental or musky scent. In fact, most deodorants have a powerful scent to them that can interfere with other fragrances. Your best bet is to buy an antiperspirant – yes antiperspirant is best for Valentine’s Day (sweaty underarms are not a beautiful image to display) – that is unscented and goes on clear. Brands to try are Secret Unscented and Dove Ultimate Sensitive Care fragrance-free. Unfortunately, not many women’s antiperspirants are available fragrance free, but if your favorite one happens to mingle well with your chosen seductive fragrance, then go for it.
Complete Lines of Fragrance vs. Mixing and Matching Scents
Using a complete line of fragrance – shower gel, body lotion/cream, body powder and perfume – has its pros and cons from my experience. Lines of fragrance within the light floral, fruity, green or chypre notes can be layered on without producing an overpowering scent. However, I have found that complete lines of fragrance made from heavy floral, oriental and musk/warm notes tend to be overpowering when used together. This is because you are piling on one heavy scent on top of another. Such intensity makes a seductive scent smell offensively pungent.
Applying Your Perfume
Since I smell most seductive in musk, amber and other warm notes like vanilla, I use bath products with lighter concentrations of these notes. For me, the AvonMineral Gems bath products suit me well as a foundation layer. This allows me to choose a perfume ranging in intensity from a heavy musk/warm scent to a light one. I wear either Avon’s Aromadisiac for her or Lacoste’s Touch of Pink. Since both fragrances vary in intensity, I apply them differently.
For Aromadisiac I apply the perfume in this manner:
– spray behind one knee
– dab spray tab behind one ear
– spray behind the other knee
– dab spray tab behind the other ear
– spray between breasts
– dab each wrist between breast and rub wrists together
– run my middle finger from between my breast up to the base of my throat to spread the scent upward
Since Lacoste’s Touch of Pink is a lighter scent, I follow the same application process I used for Aromadisiac, until it comes to the wrist and neck applications. I actually spray one spritz of perfume to one wrist and rub both wrists together to scent each wrist. I then take each wrist and press to either side of my neck for 10 seconds to lightly scent it. This may seem like a lot of steps in print but it takes two to three minutes tops to apply your perfume in either manner.
Create Your Own Scentsation for Valentine’s Day
I used myself as a guide based off the fragrance notes that work best for me. However, these tips can be used if other fragrance notes grab your valentine’s attention as well. Just follow these rules:
– Use bath products from your chosen scent notes – If need be apply your moisturizer to your hair.
– Use an unscented or fragrance free deodorant
– Apply a perfume based upon its intensity. Heavy scents require less direct application while lighter scents can be directly applied to a couple more pulse points.
If you are not experienced with layering your scent, practice before the big night. Use the bath products only and see how your valentine reacts to the smell. Then integrate a complementary perfume and see if your valentine’s response intensifies. If the final combination results in your being kissed all over, then you have the right ‘scentuous’ combination to use for Valentine’s Day. Remember ladies look beautiful, feel beautiful and smell beautiful this Valentine’s Day.
