If you have your own blog, you are probably very interested in how to get your blog read. New bloggers tend to get very frustrated early on when they post content to their blog, and no one reads it. Some bloggers might even decide to just give up on their blogs altogether because what’s the point of posting if no one cares? Well, the truth is that some people probably do care – but they don’t where to find you. Lots of people love reading blogs and regularly scour the Internet for new blogs to follow.
Get a Share Button
There are lots of “Share This” widgets out that you can embed into each blog post. You can use these to your advantage because after you publish a blog post, you can “share” your post on Twitter, Facebook, and any other social media platform you frequent. This way, people you know will be aware of your blog, and they might start reading it regularly. If you don’t want to go to the trouble of embedding a share this button into your posts, you can always share your blog posts manually by copy and pasting the link of the post into Twitter, Facebook, and other sites. Kindly ask your Twitter and Facebook followers to “re-share” your posts with their friends. If people do this, you could get even more readers.
School Yourself on SEO
If you want to learn how to get your blog read by a larger audience, you might have to take some time to school yourself on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). SEO refers to how well your blog posts, or any other content you create, ranks in the Google search results. By carefully selecting keywords and making sure they are present a certain number of times in each blog post, you are giving your posts a better chance of getting indexed well by Google. For example, if you do a blog post on a spicy roast chicken recipe, and you’ve decided to target the keyword “spicy roast chicken” you’ll want to make sure you repeat the phrase, “spicy roast chicken” at least three to five times throughout your article. Be careful not to overstuff keywords – Google doesn’t like that and may penalize you by not ranking your article well.
Think About the Nature of Your Blog
What are you blogging about? Is your blog devoted to a hobby or a specific niche, or is your blog just about you and your day to day life? If the latter applies to you, there is a chance you might have a slightly difficult time building up a large audience quickly. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever get readers – just that it won’t likely happen fast. If you want to learn how to get your blog read by lots of people in a short period of time, you might want to consider writing about things that people often search for and are interested in finding information on. Writing about your dog, your kids, and what happened today at your job is all well and good, but you have to realize that the only people who might be interested in that are your family and friends. Unless you’re incredibly funny, an exceptionally good writer, or your day to day life is exciting enough to be made into another Indiana Jones film, don’t expect everyone in the world to be very interested in your blog if that’s what you’re writing about. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t write about those things if that is what you really want to write about, just that you should know in advance it’s going to take a long time to get regular readers this way.
Lots of Content Helps
Regardless of what your blog is about, post and post often! The more your post, the more content you’ll have. This will make you easier to find in search engines, and it will give you more authority in the eyes of regular blog readers. People who read blogs often do like to follow people who post at least a few times a week. In the beginning, try to post every day until you have about 30 posts up. After that, try to shoot for two to three posts per week. Within six months, you’ll have a massive amount of material up, and this can only benefit you regardless of what you’re blogging about.
Now that you understand basically how to get your blog read, start blogging! You can’t get regular readers if you never post.
