Spider mites are unwanted and destructive insects and lives mostly underneath the leaves. As a rule, they create self-protective webs round the leaves and perforate the cells of the plant as nourishment, producing immense damage. The apparent signs of incursion of spider mites are tiny strands of web on the leaves, brownish or yellowish dots and discoloration of leaves. As spider mites spread rapidly, they need to be contained very fast. The speediest solution to get rid of spider mites is pesticides, but it could harm the plants as well the environment. But, home produced insecticides do not have side effects, nor do they damage the environment.
Look out for noticeable evidence and for conformation, place a white paper beneath a branch and tap gently. If the paper has slow-moving specks on it, you definitely have a problem of spider mites.
If the spider mites problem is substantially great, linger for a short time to see if predators of spider mites such as lady beetles, big-eyed bugs, etc, have commenced to get rid of spider mites for you. As predatory insects can be destroyed by the use of insecticides, care should be taken when spraying in order to save useful insects.
Aridity is the major reason for spider mites infest on plants and by providing enough water particularly during dry conditions will help you get rid of spider mites. Plants that are sturdy can be hosed occasionally, which will contain spider mite webs, destroying their eggs.
You can maintain the wetness in plants by keeping potted plants away from direct sunlight and giving shades to plants during hot climate. If you are not able to get rid of spider mites by natural methods, you can make a pesticide at home by simple means. In a gallon of water add 5 tablespoons of liquid detergent and stir smoothly. Spray underneath the leaves repeatedly for getting rid of spider mites.
Another home based pesticide has alcohol and water in 1:1 proportion. This mixture will get rid of the spider mites, when they come into contact. The mixture also gets evaporated very fast and impairment to your plants, if any, will be negligible.
If the home based pesticides are found wanting and is not enough to get rid of spider mites, you can use a pesticide of repute to destroy the pets. This need to be sprayed once in five days till the spider mites are gone. It may not always be prudent to use pesticides on plants and prior to applying such unsafe substances, evaluate its advantages and disadvantages.
