London is well served by an excellent public transport system, thanks to London Public Transport Network, which is one of the biggest in the world. But for first-time visitors to London, travel can be very expensive. With buses, trams, over-ground trains and the world-famous London Underground (tube) travel options can be quite intimidating. But thanks to the London Travelcard, you can travel stress-free around the capital.
What Are the Benefits of a London Travelcard?
Access to a London Travelcard allows you to enjoy unlimited journeys on all London Underground, as well as buses, trams, Docklands Light Rail and Over-ground Trains that are within zones 1-6. Purchasing a single London Travelcard eliminates the need to buy several different tickets throughout your visit.
An added bonus is that when you purchase a 6 day London Pass with Travel, you will receive a 7 day London Travelcard. The extra day comes free of charge. The savings will soon start to add up after two or three journeys around London when you compare what you would have been paying for a single tube ticket and a bus fare.
What is the Validity Period for the London Travelcard?
The validity period for the London Travelcard depends on the type of card you purchase and varies from 1 to 7 days. For example, the single day Travelcards that are purchased during the off-peak season can be used from 9.30am Mondays to Fridays, all day on weekends and on public holidays, on each day of validity and for any journey that starts before 4.30am on the day that follows the expiration date.
An added benefit is that all children under the age of 11 that are accompanied by an adult holding a valid London Travelcard get to travel for free on the tube, buses, Docklands Light Rail and London Over-ground.
If you opt to have your London Travelcard sent to your home address, you can use your Travelcard to reach central London, provided you are flying into Heathrow or London City Airport. However, if you are arriving into Gatwick, Stansted or Luton, you will need to pay part, or all, of your journey into central London.
However, the London Pass with Travel cannot be used to access express airport trains such as the Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express, Stansted Express or National Express trains.
The London Travelcard eliminates much of the stress and hassle of travel around London, as it allows the holder to use multiple forms of public transport such as the tube, buses, trams and other means of transport without having to purchase separate tickets. This in turn helps save money, which gives you more time to enjoy your sight-seeing tour of London.
