The game we all play as website owners is to build traffic. More traffic leads to new opportunities for branding and opens the door to market your products and services.
So the question becomes “how can I drive more traffic to my website?”. Unless you actually attempt to build traffic it’s not going to come to you. Content may be king but without promoting and driving traffic to your website no one will find your content.
With that being said, the following are a few no-frill methods to drive tons of traffic to your website.
Before you begin, understand that each of these do require work. Yes, to build traffic you have to work for it because there are millions of other websites trying to get traffic as well. The more work you can place toward building traffic the more you’ll get in return.
Search engine optimization.
SEO is a collection of tactics to build web pages that will rank well for keywords. From the very beginning of building a website, implement a strategy which builds correct html/css hierarchy to ensure your pages will be thoroughly indexed in search engines. Afterward, after the website is up and running, create content directed at the keywords you have in mind. Follow up by building backlinks to your web pages and your SEO campaign will send boatloads of traffic to your website through search engines.
Write, write, write some more.
Content is what drives the web. If your website only has a few pages of content it won’t compete to others that have thousands. To combat your static website, continue to write new articles or install a blog. Each new piece of content gives you an additional opportunity to be found through social media and in search engines.
Build a list.
List building, the act of capturing visitors to an email list, is one of the most powerful ways to continually drive traffic. To build a list you must offer your visitors something which will entice them to sign up such as an eBook or video series. Once you have people on your list you can continually drip your links at them which drives traffic to your website.
Participate on the web.
Now that you have a website up you can’t just sit back and expect people to come. You have to get out there and actively promote your website through forums, blogs, social media and the countless other platforms available to you. Become part of the community around your websites niche, reach out to these people and offer them great information.
Backlinks help give your website the added weight within search engines. A backlink from a well known website will help search engines place a higher value which in turn helps you show up in search engine results. Try building backlinks by blog commenting, submitting content to social bookmarking sites and writing great content people want to share.
Create a community.
Behind every great website is a great community. If you don’t actively engage your community they will find no real reason to stay around. Sure your content is great but many visitors want to engage with the website and its owner. When you build a community you will be able to sway others to help drive traffic to your website, comment, submit your content to the social web and help drive up sales.
