If you are like me, you love a good bargain. I get such an amazing feeling when I paid half the price of what something originally was. With how the economy is these days, there’s nothing better then to save a few bucks. Most people think that thrift stores don’t have any clothes that are in style, or if they do, they’ve been previously worn. Those people are wrong! There are a number of places to find the latest fads and trends where you can buy them for half the price they originally were!
Let me start by naming a few of my favorite places to get bargains:
Dirt Cheap, Goodwill, JCPenney’s, Target, and Plato’s Closet are just a few.
Dirt Cheap is a store that gets many clothes from Target and Walmart. None of the clothing items have been worn before. We have one near my college campus, and I make sure to go at least once a week to check it out! (Because of this, my closet in my dorm is completely FULL!) They have more then just clothes though, they also have accessories, purses, jewelry, tools, bedding, school supplies, movies, you name it! Most clothing items are priced between $3-$7 dollars. My greatest deal here was 4 clothes for $1. (If you didn’t get that, thats 25 cents for each item!) They also have markdowns from 30%-90% off. You have to be willing to dig in this store, but it is SO worth it! I have found many fashionable items that I later found in the mall for a much higher price. It’s a great place to do Christmas and birthday shopping as well. I recommend you check it out!
Goodwill is a well known thrift store, and there are many locations all over the U.S. Some of these stores are much nicer then others, and like Dirt Cheap, you have to be willing to dig to find the good stuff. My mom started shopping at Goodwill when I was little, and I used to hate going in there, but now I love it! Just last week I bought a flannel plaid shirt orginally from Target (which is still being sold in the store right now) for $6.99. It was originally in the $20 price range. I had almost bought it at Target a few weeks before, and now I’m so glad I waited! Goodwill is a great place to buy cheap things that you can later sell for a higher price. Just don’t forget to give your clothes a good washing when you get home, since they’ve been previously worn.
You might think it’s funny that I mention JCPenney’s on this list, but I have found many a good deal here. I shop in the Junior’s and Lady’s department of the store, and all year round they have a few racks that are discounted up to 75% off. This summer I bought several cute floral tank tops for around $3 and $4 dollars. I paired them with a solid color shawl and everyone asked me where I bought my clothes! Sometimes they have more of a selection then others, but it never hurts to check it out!
Target is one of my all-time favorite places to shop. Something about the atmosphere is so inviting! From the smell of popcorn and Starbucks when you walk in, to the cute clothes and shoes, its just a great place to hangout! I do buy regular priced clothes at Target quite often, but my favorite section of the store is in the back where the sale racks are. Our local Target has an amazing sale section, with about 15 racks of clothes marked from 30-75% off. I have found many bargains on cute outfits that I’ve put together from these sale racks, including a floral sundress that is to die for! (Which I got for $4.99!) When shopping at Target, be sure to stop by the sale racks before you leave!
Plato’s Closet is a store that buys Junior’s clothes from locals that are currently in style and pays you for them. They are pretty picky about what they buy, because they want it to be name-brand and in style. This may not always be a good thing for the person looking to make a few bucks off their unwanted clothes, but its a great thing for the shopper! This store is usually filled to the brim with clothes! I usually have to go in knowing what I’m looking for before I start shopping. I have gotten some killer deals here with clothes from Forever 21, Target, Papaya, and Abercrombie and Fitch just to name a few. Many of their clothing items are $10 and under, and I usually find so many items that I have to make myself stop! If you live in or near a big city, check out this store. They usually have the best selections of fashionable Junior’s clothes.
These are just a few stores that you can find amazing deals at. There are many more all around the country. Whether you’re a bargain shopper like me, or you are one of those people who would never set foot in a secondhand store, I encourage you to check these places out! There is no better feeling then knowing you saved money that you can later use for more important things! Plus, by shopping from the sale racks, you have more money leftover to buy more clothes with! It’s a win-win situation, don’t miss out!
