How to Assemble a Subscriber List for an Online Business

by tree pony

Building a list gives you the opportunity to market toward your community without the aid (or crutch) of using search engines, paid advertising or your own website.

At the end of the day, your list can be your most prized possession when you need to generate sales. With that being said, you’re probably wondering how you can begin building your own list.

The following article will tell you the easiest ways to build and email list and why the methods are effective.

1) Create an optimized landing page

In the first method to easily build an email list; you’ll be creating a highly optimized landing page.

Your landing page should be distraction free, hold content which will get a visitor excited to opt-in and contain your opt-in box that offers a great incentive.

Email marketing services like Aweber have become the de facto standard in terms of list building. Use the existing code from Aweber, build your opt-in box, create an eBook/video/audio guide and craft your landing page to market the list.

2) Send traffic using online content

Next, in order to build your list you’ll need to send traffic to your landing page.

Traffic generation can be done in a variety of methods from writing articles, creating videos, paid advertising, guest blogging and social media. It’s your duty to try each method to find what works best for you and your list.

3) Offer a great incentive to subscribe

Your incentive to subscribe will make or break you. If your incentive doesn’t hold enough value, people won’t trade their information; with that being said, craft your incentive to the point that it becomes feverish for the visitor to opt-in and get what you have to offer.

Ebooks, video and audio guides are all fundamental items that can be used as list incentives. Take time to create a great work of content to give to your subscribers; if it’s mediocre, people will just unsubscribe once they receive it – don’t do that!

4) Ask subscribers to share the list

A very easy method to build your email list is to just ask current subscribers to share it with friends and family.

If you’ve been giving your list great content, it’s a given that they will know others that could benefit from your content.

To go a step further, you could also embed social media buttons that automatically share your list with a click of a mouse. Make it as easy as possible for people to share and you’ll see your subscriber list jump!

5) Engage your list with great content

Once you have your list up and running with a few people you’ll want to do everything you can to keep them in.

Constantly trying to sell or push out sub-par content is a quick way to get people to leave your list; on the other hand, constantly giving away great content will not only keep them but get them to share with others.

Along the same lines as asking your subscribers to share your list; just keep giving out great content until subscribers feel compelled to share with friends.

6) Test, test and test some more

In the last way to build your email list – test, test, test!

Testing your list doesn’t require a lot of work; you simply have to be open to testing. Whenever you send out a new email, break it up into two parts to try out different headlines, content and call-to-actions.

Likewise, continually test your landing page until you increase your opt-in rate; then, test even more to bump your numbers up after each test is completed.
