I started my leap into the workforce right out of high school, working for the family business. Everyone knew I would do this, it was logical, and above all things I am logical. My experiences working for family was unique. While I got paid to show up and work very day, I also knew (logically) that every penny my bosses were able to save would ultimately benefit me. Thus my love for recycling is alive in its infancy.
I successfully worked for my family for two years. Saving them countless dollars, while learning how to operate more efficiently. Creating recycling programs that are still in effect today. Once I felt I had enough experience, and their full support, I started my own composting business. They supply a lot of the organic materials we still use in our compost today. The compost we produce is second to none, and as a byproduct I was able to grow a magnificent garden.
My garden produces the best vegetables in my county. I sell to restaurants, and local families who appreciate the low prices I offer on all of our high quality products. I have never had to spend money advertising any of my products. I am even able to sell the flowers (they just pop up!!) my garden produces. And I give full credit to the high quality compost created from what was once thrown into the trash as useless.
If you don’t have the space to compost, my second successful recycling business requires only some fake flowers, a hot glue gun and some imagination! Some are weary when I refer to this as one of my “green businesses”, although I assure you there is some serious recycling going on here!! None of the flowers are ever purchased new, and nothing is ever wasted. I assemble flowers as hair pieces, broaches, bookmarks, you name it! They sell themselves.
There are many ways to recycle and live green. I often tour the local thrift shop and collect their flowers for recycling. I also like to purchase their plastics to hold and deliver my veggies and compost. Plastic does not biodegrade, so this is an excellent way to reuse, all while saving the planet. Choosing to work green, and develop it as a business plan has paid me and my family back tenfold. There are so many ways to work green, consider how you can start working and living green today!
