The spring trend that has got everyone talking is not big jewelry or big booties –its big bodacious brows. Not big, as is overgrown and out of control. Big, as is fantastically full, superbly shaped, and graciously groomed. So let your eyebrows recoup from the tweeze-crazy trends of the past, get them shaped, and enjoy a beautiful new younger looking you.
The perfect brow
When primping and applying makeup most women tend to forget about one of the most important features on your face-your eyebrows! And since they help give your face its unique shape, the way you groom them can say more about you than you think. But finding the perfect brow for your face can seem like a daunting task for some.
When creating your perfect brow, remembering these guidelines can keep you from a brow-saster:
1. Keep the inner edge of your brow lined up with the edge of your nostril.
2. To find the outer edge, imagine a line from your nostril to the outer corner of your eye that is where your brow should stop.
3. The arch of your brow should line up with the outer rim of your iris (the circle on your eyeball).
Grooming Already Big Brows
If you already have big brows, head to a salon or day spa for a professional brow shaping. Bring cut-outs from magazines of brows you love, to explain what you have in mind. But do remember that your eyebrows need to be groomed to your face’s individual shape and you may not be able to recreate exactly the look you like in a picture. Feel free to guide your esthetician though after all they are your eyebrows.
After your first salon shaping, you can maintain your new look at home by tweezing or waxing strays. Or, if your budget allows, a revisit to the salon every couple of weeks or so will save you the trouble of trying to do it yourself. Most salons, charge around $20-$30 for a professional brow shaping.
Big brows for the tweeze-happy or barely-there
If you have been keeping up with the eye brow trends over the past decade, they may be a little on the skimpy side. If yours have decided not grow back as full as they used to, you may be wondering how you can have big brows too.
Not to worry. You can still groom the brows that you do have to a nice shape that will fit your face. Then you can employ a few tricks that makeup artists have used on their clients for years. It used to be a brow pencil was an artists’ best friend for brows. But now there are some new-age tools that are even better.
Brow Pens and Markers
Brow pens and markers have recently become a fave of makeup artists everywhere. These pens are magical when it comes to filling in a sparse brow and you don’t have to be an expert to use one. Do try to find a color that is one shade darker than your brows for a little extra definition. Smashbox and MAC both have great brow pens for the experienced artist as well as the beginner.
Try a Colored Brow Mousse
Using a colored brow mousse has also become a fave of makeup artists and rookies alike. Brow mousse is great for adding depth for those who have barely-there brows. The light creamy formula is natural-looking and easy to work with, plus when applied correctly, it stays put throughout the day. Again, look for a shade that is just a tad darker than your natural color. Tarte Cosmetics and Tweezerman both make a fantastic brow mousse.
Using a Brow Pencil
Brow pencils are great and long-lasting, and usually fairly inexpensive alternatives, but usually require a little bit of practice and a steady hand. Be sure your pencil is sharpened well and apply a dusting of a similar colored eye shadow to soften the look and make your brows look natural. Try Covergirl for a fabulous long-lasting pencil.
For Unruly Brows
If you have unruly brows, try using a little bit of lip gloss, hair gel, or a colored brow mousse to hold them in place. In addition to keeping strays in place, these gels, also give your brows a little bit of shine adding a more natural-looking touch.
Benefits of Big Brows
It has been said by many, that having full, well-groomed eyebrows is the trick to giving your face a sophisticated, more youthful appearance. And since looking younger seems to be a priority for most women these days, this is an easy way to look and feel great, and be trendy too without a huge expense. So give your brows a break from the tweezers and feel like a spring chick again.
