Daft Punk is a French duo specializing in alternative music with a decidedly electronic tone to it. They’ve had three studio albums and are currently making big news with their release of the “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack.
I have a teenage daughter who would love to host a dance party in our house with all her friends. They are already talking about the Daft Punk album which has already been released 10 days before the movie. An interview with MTV gave some great insight into the creative minds that went into the two-year soundtrack for the new “Tron” movie.
But if you want to host a dynamite dance party for your teenager over the winter break (New Year’s Eve comes to mind) here are some ideas to make your “Tron” themed Daft Punk dance party a hit.
First, you’ll need to clear an entire room full of furniture for the evening. The theme of “Tron: Legacy” is surely one of darkness and funky glow in the dark lights. Since the dance floor will be pitch black you will need a black light on the ceiling to have several effects around the dance floor. You can find a black light at just about any hardware store.
Black light tape is the best way to make your dance floor stand out without getting too messy. Blacklight.com has some viable examples for $10 in four colors. Of course, “Tron: Legacy” also has its own version of glow in the dark posters which are also $10 on Blacklight.com. Anything else you are willing to do to your dance floor will be up to you. The black light and the effects will be key to having a Daft Punk theme for decorations.
There’s never a dance party without music. Your local music store or online shop will have most of these tracks. If you have an iPod your music shopping will be made much easier.
Daft Punk themselves have three studio albums in “Homework,” “Discovery” and “Human After All.” You can find all three on Amazon if your local store doesn’t have them. They are sure bets to play all night long.
To mix it up you will want songs and albums much like the dance-techno of Daft Punk. Three choices I recommend are New York City DJ Moby, German-based Enigma and the British duo The Chemical Brothers. All three are big names on the music charts and their CDs should be widely available.
Of course you will want some musical input from the teenager inviting all of his or her friends as well.
Perhaps the best way to get attired for the evening of electronic dance mixes will be to wear clothing which does well in black light. White cotton shirts done with black light effects is perhaps the most recognizable way to make an impression.
You can find black light paints in any craft store. Make sure you use a shirt you don’t mind getting messed up or some old jeans too. Helmets, as seen on “Tron: Legacy” will probably be too cumbersome, not to mention hot and sweaty, for getting your groove on the dance floor.
To sum up, lots of black light effects everywhere without ruining the furniture is perfect for a Daft Punk and/or “Tron: Legacy” dance party.
