Instead of “Dingy Harry” as Rush calls him I think henceforth I will call him “Hopeful” Harry Reid. In yet another effort to convince himself and others of the supremacy of the progressive ideology Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, has pronounced the Tea Party to be “extreme” as well as “short lived.”
What part of adhering to the Constitution is “extreme?” How exactly? Here is Hopeful Harry’s statement:
“I believe the Tea Party is short-lived. I think you will find even the people that claim they are Tea Party folks will either be gone as a result of their extreme positions or they will move to the more moderate position, which is certainly not being a liberal, that is being a conservative. I think with the economy getting better, you’re going to see less and less agitation from the Tea Party folks.”
Let’s deconstruct Hopeful Harry’s nonsense. At this point the Tea Party movement is two years old and shows no sign of slowing at all. So Hopeful Harry, what is extreme about demanding adherence to the Constitutional principles of limited and small government; government living within its means; government respecting the rights and autonomy of citizens? How is any of that extreme?
How can this man make this claim with a straight face? In a time of record deficits and a burgeoning national debt being exploded on a monthly basis, don’t citizen’s have the right to petition government for redress, as the saying goes? How is it extreme to expect government to live within their means? Recall the monthly deficit for February, 2011 was $223 Billion dollars…the highest monthly deficit ever. As well recall that the February 2011 deficit of the Obama Administration is $60 Billion dollars more than the entire deficit for 2007 – ya know, that evil spendthrift Bush.
With progressives in and out of government telling us deficits and national debt are no big deal and can’t be cut without severe harm to the economy, what to make of Hopeful Harry’s comments? And what nation does Hopeful Harry live in? Is our economy actually getting better? Monthly new home starts fell by the highest percentage ever recorded last month. That IS NOT improvement.
Was Harry perhaps referring to the unemployment numbers? When it fell to below 9% last month progressives hailed this as proof of Obama’s magnificence. Horse hockey! Government even admitted that they removed from the potential rolls of job seekers those who no longer qualify for unemployment benefits, so naturally the unemployment numbers government reports would decline when the size of the universe of job seekers declines as well. This is another of those infamously misleading…no, outright lies, of Obama mathematics, ya know, like the Obamacare math that was supposed to reduce deficits but are now proven to be economy killers?
Not to be forgotten, wasn’t it just last week good old Harry Reid told us their would be no entitlement reform for at least another couple decades because as he admits, he and his party have no stomach for it? As Harry said “Two decades from now, I’m willing to take a look at it, but I’m not willing to take a look at it right now,” adding “It is not in crisis at this stage. Leave Social Security alone. We have a lot of other places we can look that is in crisis. But Social Security is not.”
Hopeful Harry proves yet again that progressives haven’t a clue. Until budgets are bought into line with taxes collected the Tea Party will live on. Until we drill our own domestic energy the Tea Party will live on. With the 2012 election still 19 months away, and with ousting Obama one of the main impetuses of Tea Parties, those of us seeking government redress via the Tea Party will continue to flourish. Hopeful Harry is merely fantasizing out loud.
I will however predict an end to the Tea Party movement when Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama are nothing more than horrid memories. Until then, as long as these un-American fools retain any power to influence American politics and economy, Tea Party types like me will live on, if for no other reason than to save our republic from these Marx inspired usurpers.
