Really? Has it really been twenty years since a young boy by the name of Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) captivated audiences with his childishly ingenious, yet hilarious antics on those Christmas nights.
After wishing his family would disappear, Kevin wakes up in the morning to find his wish has come true, and his family, after heading to the airport to depart for Paris, France, have forgotten their youngest child. While his mother, Kate McCallister (Catherine O’Hara), frantically tries to find a way back to Chicago, Kevin is having the time of his life, using his mean older brother, Buzz’s, stuff, and basically doing everything anyone would do if they were left home alone.
After awhile, however, Kevin overhears local street rats, Harry Lyme (Joe Pesci) and Marv Merchants (Daniel Stern) talk about their plans to break into his house. After meeting and befriending a nice, elderly man named Marley (Roberts Blossom), Kevin gets his house ready for the two crooks.
We all know the rest, and if you don’t, I highly encourage watching the classic Christmas movie with your family this holiday season.
But what is likely egging your mind is the question about where they, and especially Kevin, are now. This question bugged me too, but no more!
After Home Alone 2, though he made an appearance as The Nutcracker in 1993, and various guest appearances through the next few years, he didn’t truly return to acting until 2003 in the Fenton Bailey film, Party Monster.
In his personal life, Culkin married Rachel Miner at age 18. After the couple divorced in 2000, Culkin began dating then That ’70s Show star, Mila Kunis in 2002. The two are still together to this day.
As for the rest of the stars…
Brother Buzz (Devin Ratray) looks to star in a hit thriller entitled Elevator in 2011, perhaps the breakthrough role of his career.
Catherine O’Harra, though she had many voice-only roles, (Over the Hedge, Chicken Little, and Brother Bear 2), she also starred as Justice Strauss alongside Jim Carrey in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Most recently, however, she starred in Temple Grandin as Aunt Ann, for which she was nominated for numerous awards.
Joe Pesci has been all but silent since his 3rd appearance in the Lethal Weapon series in 1998. He had a cameo in The Good Shepherd, and most recently appeared in Love Ranch, a mildly criticized love story.
Daniel Stern, after appearing in Rookie of the Year as pitching coach, Phil Brickma, in 1993, hasn’t had much more than small supporting roles in various films, both cartoon and live action. Most recently he appeared in Whip It! with Ellen Page, and The Next Three Days with Russell Crowe.
After a brief role in the Gene Hackman film, The Quick and the Dead, as Doc Wallace, Roberts Blossom hung up his hat as far as acting was concerned, and began to write poetry.
