The holidays always make it hard to land the perfect gift – you don’t know what they would like, you know what they would like but not if they already have it, what the nature of your relationship is, how much money to spend is the right amount…
Ready to pull out your hair? You and me both! But when it comes to shopping, I do so love it as long as I know I can solve such puzzles as the ones above. So let’s take a little foray into some of the fun, off the wall, weird, funny, and touching gifts for the movie lover(s) in your life!
ThinkGeek, one of my favorite websites ever, supplies us with many, many movie goodies, not the least of which is a sizable Star Wars selection. My pick? The Tauntaun Sleeping Bag! At $99.99, this is for that favorite brother you have or perhaps your husband. Perhaps even your daughter or mother; I just know in my world, it would be ideal for my brother. Or husband. And yes, I know maybe it should be under Sci-Fi, but it fits better with the A/A genre since it’s so mainstream.
Perhaps someone you love (or have to gift) is a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean? Kids, coworkers, adults, really anyone who likes these movies and, you know, eats will enjoy the Pirates of the Carribean Metal Lunch Box & Thermos. At only $18.95, it’s a great deal and you know they don’t already have one!
One of my favorites, Indiana Jones, is a classic and phenomenal action/adventure series. Short of actually scoring the famous Indy fedora, fun for all can be found in the Lego Indiana Jones Video Game! It has awesome reviews, is available for the Wii, PS 3, X-Box 360, DS, PSP, and for PCs and Macs. Plus, it’s super-affordable.
Etsy is the answer for every gifting dilemma you ever faced and When Harry Met Sally is the answer for a movie that pleases both men and women! So one of my favorite gift ideas is the When Harry Met Sally 8×10 Art Print for only $18 (it’s also one of my very favorite movies, but who could blame me?!). Put it in a cute low-cost frame from IKEA, toss it in a bag with tissue paper, and you are party-bound!
Okay, so yes, I’m fairly sure that most women (and quite a lot of men) still adore Dirty Dancing and new generations are discovering every day. And, now you can actually discover it every day with the Dirty Dancing 2011 Wall Calendar from Amazon.
And we go back to Etsy for goodies for still another favorite film – this one, a comedy. And it’s a favorite for a lot of people I know, but men especially (which can often be so hard to shop for!) tend to love Dodgeball. There’s only one of these and it’s only $20, so I recommend you quickly check out the Dodgeball Throw Pillow and gift it to your favorite average Joe.
If you’re going a little more retro sci-fi this year, or know someone who would like you to, you can’t do much better than the 1954 awesome-tastic movie, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A singing Kirk Douglas with a goofy, friendly sea lion keeps everyone from my grandmother to my nephews captivated still. So if you’ve got a super-cool retro chick friend, girlfriend, wife, etc., you could do way worse than this awesome Book Purse.
With its chilling music, terrifying suspense, and brilliant one-liners, a favorite film around here will always be Jaws. It’s true that we have to ignore the sequels, but otherwise this film remains a true, much-loved, and much-imitated classic. So even if it isn’t someone’s favorite movie, any movie lover will love the Shark Attack Bottle Caps which can be made (on request) into ornaments, pendants, or key chains.
Back to ThinkGeek we go for all things that capture the epicenter of all things horror – the zombie movie! My pick for the zombie lover you love (or as a gag gift for a movie-lover who hates zombie films!) is the Zombie Board Game. Pick up the 501 Things to do with a Zombie book for yourself.
We won’t pretend only kids love Disney, so you don’t have to be ashamed to love Cinderella’s Castle Cookie Jar. ‘Nuff said.
And I know not only kids loved Despicable Me (since my husband insisted we go and adored it) and not only kids will love the Despicable Me Inflatable Minion. It’s small, which will be great for little ones, and it’s small, which will be great for sitting next to an adult’s trash can in their office, looking up at their boss, showing him who is really boss. (You.) And at $6 a pop, you can get one for the kid and for you, too.
No one wants to get a gift relating to their favorite Drama. That’s just depressing.
So enjoy yourself, look around, and I’m sure there are plenty of things that will fit your budget, their desires, and virtually any season or holiday event. Happy shopping.
