Whether you are a visitor, tourist, native or living in the area, it’s great to know where the healthy restaurants and stores are. After too much fast food and quick, unhealthy meals on the go, find something that is good for you and makes you feel good as well. Below find some wonderful healthy food restaurants and stores in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.
Yokohama in Moorestown, NJ
Yokohama is a Japanese restaurant through and through. The dishes are wonderful, the employees friendly (and mostly of Asian descent) and there are many healthy options. Even with the Hibachi they recently opened, all the food is stir-fried in front of you with big vegetables, hunks of salmon, tender chicken breast and more. You can also opt for sushi or sashimi which is low in fat and calories.

Trader Joes in Marlton, NJ
Trader Joes is a wonderful store to buy food whether you want organic, healthy, vegetarian or all three. The prices are reasonable and the food always fresh. They sell a fat free black bean dip to die for as well as frozen tilapia that melts in your mouth once cooked. There is a lot to choose from, and even the healthy stuff tastes really good!
300 Route 73 South
Estia Restaurant in Philadelphia
This Greek restaurant specializes in Whole Fish dishes which are low in fat and calories. The fish are charbroiled with natural spices. They also serve an organic chicken dish; wonderful, traditional salads and grilled vegetables. A delicious choice for healthy dining.
1405-7 Locust Street
Horizons in Philadelphia
This is a vegan establishment, so for those who shy away from this, or enjoy meat, this is truly a tasty break from the norm. This restaurant has been written up as well as talked about on the local “NBC 10” show, all with good reviews. With Hearts of Palm, Yukon mash, Futsu squash and more, this eclectic place will become a favorite. They serve lots of vegetables, and they even have a tasting menu if you can’t decide on one dish. Try their Apple Cheesecake or Carrot Cake Jar for dessert! YUM! (they also have wine and beer)
611 South 7th Street
Essene Market and Cafe in Philadelphia
This establishment not only sells healthy, natural food and vitamins, they also have a cafe with an “ethnic” variety of dishes. They support macrobiotics (eating grains as your main meal rather than processed stuff). They also have an organic bakery that makes stuff fresh daily. The cafe and bakery menu is whatever they have to use seasonally.
