COMMENTARY | I dislike Harry Reid. As far as I’m concerned what he, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama engineered was despicable. They powered their legislation through Congress never allowing for debate. Now Reid is whining because he’s getting the same thing from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
Andrew Taylor of the Associated Press has posted an article titled “Reid proposes 30-day bill to avert shutdown.”
The situation is that the Democrats set up a budget that is ridiculous. They did it without negotiating and as a result the American people put their foot down and kicked a bunch of Democrats out of office. The Republican-dominated House has passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill through September. Note this is $1.2 trillion and as a result that takes the budget down $60 billion. That is nothing in a $1.2 trillion budget. However, the author of the article, Taylor uses the word “slashed;” anything for a read.
Speaking of reads, Reid indicates he will bring to the Senate floor a bill to cover that money so that untoward things won’t happen such as our troops will not be paid and seniors will not get their Social Security. Reid as usual isn’t on the up-and-up. Even Taylor has to admit that these things wouldn’t happen which makes his title untrue. Believe me Obama wants to be re-elected and if those things happened people wouldn’t care why. Obama would be held responsible.
I have to laugh when Reid says “Speaker Boehner should stop drawing lines in the sand and come to the table to find a responsible path forward that cuts government spending …” Why didn’t he, Pelosi and President Obama do that?
We are all paying a price now. That price is we have to watch as the politicians do what they want in the name of protecting when in fact they all have their personal reasons for their acts.
While I feel better that there is a counter-action to the Democratic insanity that has been going on since Obama was elected, I trust no one.
I would have you note that Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., criticized Republicans for wanting their demands “before negotiations.” Oh how short Schumer’s memory is.
President Obama’s health care program was passed with Democratic muscle and we were told changes would be made “after the fact.” You remember that don’t you.
It is amazing how people don’t like to be on the receiving end of unfair methods they engage in.
