The Upper East Side gang is finally back from their long winter break but still are as scheming and drama-prone as always. We were left hanging last time as Serena went to go look for the judge to help get Ben out of prison, Dan and Blair went to a movie together, Nate’s father was out of prison and Chuck went to New Zealand to find Uncle Jack.
Serena and Chuck both returned to Manhattan empty handed. Chuck was trying to save his father’s business from being sold by the ruthless Lily. And Serena was trying to get her old high school teacher Ben out of prison; which Lily had gotten him thrown into. So naturally S and C got together to take mommy-dearest down. Lily however tried to reassure both of them that she was taking care of things and to just trust her. It was hard to trust her because of the crazy metallic-ruched dress that was taking over her normally classically-dressed body. So Serena dressed up like Lily to break into her bank safe deposit box that Chuck had found. In the box was a copy of the affidavit that Lily had signed for Serena that basically accused Ben of sexually harassing the underage naif and had sealed his fate to prison. The two confronted Lily at a party thrown by one of Bart Bass’s old associates named Thorpe. Basically Lily told Chuck that if word got out to the Bass Industries buyer that there was trouble between them, then the buyer might back out and then the company would be open to unscrupulous buyers who wouldn’t have the best interest of the company at heart. Turned out that Thorpe, a too-young looking African-American, stirred the pot so he could buy the company to “dismantle it and sell off the parts.” But his daughter Raina was interested in Chuck and they took off together in her limo.
Meanwhile Serena wasn’t sure about how her mother was handling the judge because from her and sleuth-brother Eric’s point of views, Lily was usurping the sitch as usual. But when Serena went to go visit Ben in prison, he had just been released by the judge and was waiting outside the prison walls for the bus! How Serena had missed him when she sashayed inside is still up in the air. But she asked him to go for a coffee and he accepted.
Dan and Blair were both trying to forget that they went to a movie together and were separately scheming how to get lucrative internships. Dan wanted a writing internship and had an interview all lined up. But Serena wrapped her spell around him again so he ended up waiting around for her and missed his interview. Serena apologized and he basically told her that he was her doormat and she could wipe her dirty feet all over him and he would always be there. Gag. Blair was going about getting her internship in a different way. She had her two minions and Dorota scheming to get an appointment with a powerful woman on the Forbes list. Eleanor wanted Blair to intern with her, and Blair agreed only when she found out that Eleanor was going to dress the Forbes lady. So Blair tried to swipe the dress for Forbes lady but Eleanor found out, took Blair down and fired her too! Blair apologized later and the two realized that Blair would be perfect as a fashion editrix because she was – as Dan had told her – “a dictator of taste.” Dan was going to drown his sorrows about still being Serena’s doormat and not getting an internship with an indy movie and Blair decided to tag along.
Nate was having trouble all episode keeping his newly released horny father out of trouble and keeping his appointments so he wouldn’t go back to prison. The Captain was last seen speaking with Mr. Thorpe about taking care of his new business acquisition of Bass Industries.
