Have you always wanted to know the answers to questions such as what happens when a person dies, what should be your primary purpose in life, or how should you deal with tough financial or marital challenges? Well, all of these answers are found in the Bible, and in each book of the Bible you’ll see instances of how godly people learned to trust God as they dealt with life issues, but you’ll also see their failures as well as their triumphs. For example, David feared God and sought to please Him in everything but David also sinned by committing adultery with an officer’s wife then had him killed to cover his adultery. Solomon was a wise man but he sinned by adopting pagan customs through his marriages to foreign women.
The first thing you want to do is be sure that you have trusted in Christ alone for eternal salvation from spiritual death and forgiveness of sins. This is important because until you do this, the Holy Spirit does not reside in you and without the Holy Spirit, you will not be able to understand the Scriptures. When Adam and Eve were created by God in the Garden of Eden, they enjoyed a perfect relationship with God. Then Satan in the form of a serpent deceived Eve by tempting her to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which God commanded them not to eat. As a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, they became aware of their sinfulness and they died spiritually. Not only that, but every human being born after them would be born spiritually dead in sins and eternally separated from God, and doomed to eternity in hell. But the good news is that God in the person of Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life in our place, died in our place as a perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rose from the dead so that all people who place their faith in Him alone will have eternal life in heaven. This means that you cannot trust in good works such as church attendance, being nice to others or giving to charities. God requires perfect obedience to His laws in actions and thoughts all of the time in order for us to be accepted in His sight, but no human being will ever be able to perfectly keep God’s laws so Christ lived a perfect life in our place and through His death, burial and resurrection, all Christians now stand in perfect righteousness before God.
Once you’ve become a Christian through faith in Christ alone, the Holy Spirit now lives inside of you and will transform your life. When seeking the scriptures, you should write down a list of various topics that you’re interested in then look in the back of your Bible and write down all of the verses which deal with each subject you’re interested in. For example, if you need passages on childrearing and marriage, look for verses on these subjects then study them carefully.
Read books from Bible scholars on various life issues. If you want to do a detailed study on how to develop a strong defense from sexual temptation, visit your local Christian bookstore and ask the clerk for books which deal with this issue. Also compare what the authors write with Scriptures so that you won’t be deceived by false doctrines that are contrary to the Scriptures.
Attend church services. While attending church services doesn’t give you eternal life, once you’ve become a Christian you want to find a church where you can felloowship with other Christians and learn the Bible together. You can also take important notes during the sermon so you can study that topic during the week at home.
