Read my super easy plan, and you too can lose those holiday pounds in no time.
Just like almost everyone else, I usually gain a few pounds during the holidays, and just like almost everyone else, I usually make a New Year’s resolution to lose the weight. There is one difference this year. I have a plan. It’s super simple, and it works.
This is a very boring and very plain diet, but it works fast. I plan to stay on the diet during the week, and on the weekends give myself a little leeway, while still making healthy choices.
Breakfast: Two egg whites, cooked any style.
One slice of whole-wheat toast with one teaspoon of jam.
One eight-ounce glass of skim milk.
One eight-ounce glass of grapefruit juice.
Lunch: Large mixed green salad.
One four-ounce grilled skinless chicken breast.
Two tablespoons of low-fat or fat-free salad dressing.
Diet soda or water.
Dinner: One four-ounce piece of chicken or fish, grilled, broiled or baked.
Dinner sized green salad with lots of crunchy vegetables.
One small potato or sweet potato with minimal toppings (i.e. salt and pepper).
Diet soda or water.
During the week, I will not eat any sweets, nor will I drink any alcohol, since both have a lot of empty calories. I will drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water every day.
It’s very easy to shop for this diet, and also easy to prepare the foods. It’s just very boring and plain, and that’s why I plan to cut myself a little slack on the weekends. By a little slack, I mean that maybe I will allow myself a glass of wine with dinner on Saturday night or a bite of someone else’s dessert.
This diet is very effective, and I will lose weight on it alone, but exercise will make the pounds fall off even faster. Exercise has many other benefits too, and should be a part of your everyday lifestyle, and not just something you do to lose weight.
The first element of exercise that I plan to use is something I do already, walking the dogs. We have three dogs, and they have plenty of room to run in the back yard, so we don’t walk them every day, but I plan to take them for a daily walk for at least thirty minutes. Not only will it benefit me, it will also benefit the dogs. On bad weather days, I will walk on our treadmill for thirty minutes instead.
I also plan to do some light resistance training. Thirty minutes a day, three times a week with light dumbbells will be enough to rev up my muscles into high calorie burning gear.
So you see, this is a very simple plan, and very effective too. I know the food is pretty boring, but the upside to that is how quick and easy it is to prepare. By following this very basic diet and exercise plan, getting back into shape for 2011 will be quick and easy too.
